Hi all,

Just curious ... how many miles per week do you run when you aren't training for something in particular? Or do you "count" what you are running some other way (days/week, time...)?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I still count miles and aim for around 40-45 if I'm not training for anything. Of course I'm rarely not training for anything but theoretically, that's what I do. Very Happy

Mike and Julie run more miles not training than I do training.... Sad

Reina, I've been getting in 25-29 a week for the last couple of months. In marathon training I max at out 45-50. I've been pretty faithful about going 5 days a week whether training or just keeping my base.

Interesting question. I run 40-50 mpw year round since I like to race. I often drop down to the 30-35 mpw range after a marathon or particularly hard race for a week or too, and I usually bring that average up over 50 mpw when I'm in the heart of marathon training (I'll get to 60).

I find that I need the consistency (mileage wise), but I mix up the intensities and purpose. I also only run over 15 miles for my long run when I'm marathon training. I keep it in the 13-15 mile range for half marathons and add in more "speed".

That's a good point, too. I do most of my "long" workouts on the bike when I'm not training for anything. But sometimes I'll throw in an impromptu 3-hour run just to keep the legs from getting complacent.

Probably 50%ish of normal weekly mileage.
