Strong 10 mile run I just read. You never know when the legs will cooperate.

9 miler...
9 easy miles this morning. Knowing that I only had 9 miles to do tyhis morning, I let myself sleep in until about 5:30. It was a nice, calm, and not brutally hot or humid morning. I got in 9.32 miles at a 7:37 pace. I can definitely see an increase in my fitness since Memorial Day when I started my training cycle.

So glad it wasn't humid for you! My nine was a little rougher! Good for you to see progress in training! That's the way it should work!

12 miles...
12 miler today with the middle 6 being fartlek miles. Up at at it early this morning on another great morning for a run. I ran the first three miles at a very comfortable pace and then the midlle 6 at fartlek (7:03, 7:08, 7:06, 7:12, 7:09, 7:13). I then slowed it back down for the last three miles.
Everything was going great and as planned until around 1.25 miles to go. That is when I started to develop a dull ache on the outside of my right knee. Uh oh...the first thing that came to my mind was my IT band. I kept going for a couple of tenths hoping that it would go away, but after it didn't I shut the pace down and eased the last mile home.
I am hoping that it is nothing serious and have already put some ice on the area and popped some ibuprofen. I think that I am going to treat it like it's serious and hope that it is not. This may be my body telling me that it needs a break...so I am at least going to take tomorrow off from running and then go from there. I may have to take it easy next week...It is not really that sore and I am hoping that it is just the hypochondriac in me thinking that things are worse than they really are...
I'll keep y'all posted...
oh ya...my final run stats were 12.22 miles at a 7:46 pace

I hope it's nothing serious! Ice sounds like a great idea and I'm sure you know some good stretches.
Try not to get ahead of yourself worrying about next week already!

Sorry about that, Nick. I doubt if it is you just being paranoid - you run enough that you know when something isn't right. Hopefully it heals up quickly and you can get back to it. You've really been training hard lately...

Good call easing up on the last mile. I'll find that I get some of my old niggles every once in a while if I'm going fast/hard/on weird terrain and a good stretch afterwards tends to do the trick.
And 5:30 is sleeping in?!

I am only a little worried but at least I am only in the middle of my cycle instead of the end. That would be devastating. I feel pretty good today, but I am still going to take the day off from running and try it a little tomorrow to see how things feel...

I hear you on worrying. But lets turn it into wonder. Lets wonder why you have this niggle and work the solution (which you are). This could be a sign from above telling you your body needs a break how long well we don't know you yet. venture to say it is just a niggle.
To help the process of healing I like to sit in my shower (if you can) or lay in bath and meditate over your whole body starting with the front of your toes working up your shins to your knee (stopping there and focusing on the warm water sending healing powers to that spot) then move up your leg to your waist then stomach, chest shoulder along your face and when you reach the top of you head work your way back down your backside repeating this 2-3x) This 10-15 healing meditation as helped me not only heal me but comfort me in times of uncertainty).
Re: This is the year...continued...
Hope the leg cooperates and you're back to it quickly Nick.

Normally, on the weekends, I am up around 4 or 4:30 to get out before the sun starts to bake.

Unscheduled off day...
I am giving my body some extra rest on what was supposed to be a 3 mile recovery day.

I think it's wise to take some time off. It's really something another day or two off might not be a bad idea, either. How are your shoes?

Nice audible on taking today off. I won't worry to much about it, I have had dull aches on the outside of my knees after long runs at times. I'm sure the day of rest and some extra strength Bayer will clear it up. Well at least I hope.

Hope you're feeling better. If it continues, try sleeping with a pillow between your legs. Yes, I have weird "home remedies" but it worked for me. And it was better than the evil roller which I love.
I'm glad you're resting though. Just watch some porn to take your mind off of it.

Shoes are fairly fresh as I have a couple that I rotate every other run with. I have an appointment to see my ART specialist on Wednesday. He has been a life saver before, so if anything is tight, I am sure he can loosen things up for me.

Rest, ibuprofen, and ART is my prescription. I am hope that will clear it up, too...Felt good today, so I may give it a try tomorrow...Standby...

I use the roller, the stick, and even better a softball for trigger point. The softball really brings the pain!!
