5:00 is sleeping in for me so 5:30 sounds just wonderful. I hope your ART specialist helps.

Unscheduled off day.
I decided to take a second day off, just to make sure that everything gets healed up. The plan is to give it a go tonight. I plan on just doing a few easy miles just to make sure that everything is ok. I may go a little farther if everything feels alright.

Good luck tonight!
Re: This is the year...continued...
I just got back from my ART specialist (I am really not sure if that is the appropriate title as he is really a chiropractor that is licensed in ART) and he told me that my IT Band is a little tight. I kind have figured that was the case and the cause of my "niggle". He beat the crap out of my leg, so I am hoping that it will loosen it up some. I have a follow-up treatment session scheduled for Monday.
I''ll post later tonight on how things go this afternoon.

Re: This is the year...continued...
Sorry to read about the IT band issue Nick, but it looks like between the ART, foam roller, NSAID's, etc. you're doing what you need to do. Hopefully it'll just remain a niggle and not get in your way too much.

Re: This is the year...continued...
ITB usually is very treatable and hopefully should not affect your running to much. I found at my worst I was still able to log the miles but doing track work or strides would be very difficult. ART is perfect IMO for this along with foam rolling and stretching. It is caused by misalignment of the hips usually.
Re: This is the year...continued...
Kenny is correct and I hope that the ART session helped, Nick. I live with my foam roller close by for this exact reason.

Alright, I wanted to test things out tonight and figured that I would go with an easy 4 miles to see how things feel. I got in 4.12 miles at an 8:16 pace. Everything felt pretty good the whole run, but I didn't want to push anything. Afterwards I elevated and iced...as of right now, everything feel good. We'll see how I feel tomorrow morning. If all is good, I plan on giving it a go again tomorrow. I want to ease my way back into running just to be safe. I still have plenty of time left in my training, so no time to worry yet.

That's great news! If it starts to bother you, you just give me a call and I'll bring my softball over and beat the hell out of you. You seem to like pain and I would love to help you out
What are friends for right? hahaha

Nice job on the 4 miler without pain. Glad the Chiropractor/ART session helped. Good for you for going the cautious route. Long term that is so much more rewarding than just pushing yourself into a bigger injury.

Glad your leg issue seems to be on the mend! That of course is one of the biggest challenges we all face in training, that is to stay uninjured or at least keep them manageable.
ART has seemed to help many a runner.

Good to see it was just a minor blip on the radar. Now, get out there and knock out 15 or so tonight to catch up on mileage!

Nick - I was a little worried for you with the mileage you've been pounding out, but I just caught up and am very glad that it looks like you are back in business. You are smart for being cautious...

Thanks...I am in pretty good running shape right now, better than this point last year. I'll be alright. I just want to be smart about it and not mess up my October by being dumb at the beginning of August

Day 2 of the comback trail. I say that like I have taken a lot of time of, when really it was only two days. This felt good tonight...I completed 5.23 miles at an 8:02 pace. A little faster than last night's run, but I still do not want to push anything. Play it safe is my motto. Tomorrow is a scheduled off day, which I am going to take. Actually, I will still be punishing my body tomorrow as I have a 7 hour car ride up to northern Minnesota (north of Brainerd) for a wedding on Saturday.

Scheduled off day. I made it up to the northern latitudes around 5 pm. Just in time to get to the rehearsal.

This morning I got in 4.23 miles prior to our journey home. It was really neat to run around the lake and hear the loons singing. I am currently on my trek home...We just crossed the Minnesota/Wisconsin border. Only 240 miles to go!!!
