Just got back from a 14 here in Detroit. Same weather as Chicago. Ouch. Just catching up.
Way to go Wendy -
Hang in there Lisa - glad you're ok
Good finish Lentz

Is Lisa still running? There is no update after 25K at 10:47 so I am just wondering how she is doing.

Schuey posted that she ended up in the med tent, because of her ankle. Not sure if they would let her back out on the course...

Congrats to everyone for their training and taking the starting line in those conditions. It's just a matter of time before everyone hits their ultimate goals as everyone puts in the training. Live to fight another day.

Re: tracking chicago
Good job to EVERYONE! Too bad Chicago weather hasn't rewarded y'all for all your hard work and dedication. Some do well in the heat - most of us don't. We certainly can't race to our training potential in such conditions. But . . . cheers to y'all that stepped foot into the crucible of competition today.
Re: tracking chicago
Congrats to everyone on what looks like a day that just tougher and
tougher. I'm sorry to read that Jim had take a DNF, and I hope Lisa's
ankle is o.k. Also a big congrats to Nick for a great PR in Steamtown.
A valiant effort by everyone!

Dang...that sucks Jim. Next year I will run Chicago and we can both try for a sub 3:05. How does that sound??

Re: tracking chicago
Mixed feelings - bummed for Lisa and Jim, both of which worked hard and I was really hoping would get a finish/BQ. I hate it because I really wanted it for both of you. Never heard how Chris/fostever/Martin/etc. finished? Hopefully well, but I know conditions were less than perfect. Randy, Tim, Wendy, Dave - wow, impressive times. I know Dave you busted your tail working towards a faster time, but you still rocked it - it might not be worth much to say it, but I am totally impressed. I know everyone else worked hard too - look forward to the reports. Great job to all. Jim and Lisa - hope you are OK - I know you both have had your own struggles but have made big fitness gains - Jim, I agree with Michele that another marathon before too long might be a great idea.

Re: tracking chicago
Congrats to everyone competing today. Sounds like it was a b*tch out there. I'm sorry to hear about the DNFs/injuries/med tent and some goals not being met, but each and every one of you is an endless inspiration to me. I'm in awe of all of the 365Runners on a daily basis. Congrats to those who finished and those who PRed!! Everyone's determination and spirit is contagious, and I'm sending a big WHOO HOO to all of you!!!
Note to self: maybe don't run Chicago one year. The weather always seems so evil!!! Hmph!

I agree. Run Lincoln (NE). It hasn't ever been that hot since I've run the full or half every year but once since 2006.

Re: tracking chicago
Years ago, I set two goals, one to BQ, the other to run 3 US World Major, which I did, Chicago 07, then 10, New York 08, Boston 09. I ran New York and Boston for fun, yet encountered perfect weather, the only 2 of my 12 that I planned to run for fun.
Chicago, no deep dish pizza, lots of $$$, no PR. Twice, the day was warmer than Dallas. Come to think about it, out of 10 races I went all out for PR, 5 times I succeeded. 2 of them in Dallas, my first and 2nd, sort of granted. I raced Dallas 2 other times and couldn't PR.
What are the 3 marathons I PR'd big time, all around 20 minutes with BQ, sub 3? Houston 07, 09, 10.
May be there is such thing as faith. I don't know. For those of you who are disappointed today, hope you find your The Race.
I may go back to Chicago someday. At the moment, I am sick of it.

Oh, no! Well, report back and let us know. I'm sure that Stephen has pulled out of the race as well. Hope he's okay and will check in. I believe that is everyone, isn't it? All are in?
Hi Dot
I actually carried on though the last 10K was brutal, finished in an unimpressive 6.14 with a very sore hip. Otherwise survived the hot conditions--it was very hot in th open on the second half of the course.

uh-oh...Lisa was doing a 20 min mile the last 5k after really steady 9:30's. Hope she's okay.
Just wanted to let everyone know I just saw my mom and Lisa is fine. She had to get taken to the med tent, something happen to her ankle. I'm changing my cloths right now and Chris is in the shower and I'm heading back down to Grant Park. My mom says she is fine but I will have to go she what is going on.
I do know it is the ankle she hurt real bad a couple of winters ago. Will give another update later when I find out more of what is going on and what happen. Thanks for caring everyone.
Hope everything is fine with Lisa!

Great job keeping going Stephen. It had to be very tough in that hot sun that last six miles (not to mention before then).stephenbarryfreedman wrote:dot520 wrote:Mark B wrote:Ooo. Sorry about Lisa's ankle. Hope she's okay.
