November 26th, 2013

Day 2 of my taper for Dallas Marathon. I take the Thanksgiving week off to accompany my DD, but she had a sleep over and is at her friend's house. My wife has left to work. I have only an easy 6 planned and can take my time.  I wake up late and feel fresh and energized. All alone, I feel a little empty.

So I take my cloth off, one by one. Then I place my hand on my tummy, look down, and step forward.

"Damn it, still 135."

Day 3 

8 miles easy.

People often say race is a mental game, and say someone able to hold the pace at the end is tough. My view is it is never about toughness. It is about passion and hunger for a successful race. It's love in the end that makes us not to give up.

Day 4

8 miles w 2@MP. I don't think I held 6:52 in the second mile, but who cares. Did some stride with my race shoes-Lunar Spiders. The new version is wilder than before, kind of weird, but I've decided to give it a try.

Lower back stiffens as I type. I may need to open a bottle of wine just to loose up.

133lbs this morning. Screw it, it's more important not to mess up the back.

Don't lose control of the weight Jerry.  That is one thing that I need to correct in future tapers.

Don't lose control of the weight Jerry.  That is one thing that I need to correct in future tapers.

In past training cycles, I would gain 10 pounds in the 8 weeks before the taper.  Then, I would gain another 5 on carbo-loading on the last week of taper.  This cycle, I've lost 3 pounds so far and don't expect to gain any weight during carbo-loading, as I don't carbo-load anymore.  I expect to lose 1 or 2 pounds between now and mid-January.

Jerry, might be a good time for a massage and again the day before the race.
