places to run in Chicago suburbs
I want to take some time to just enjoy running and run somewhere I've never been but relatively local. I always run along the lake, which is awesome, and I've never taken it for granted since moving to Chicago. I really love the lake path. But I think a change of scenery could help because I'm starting to get bored. Does anyone in the greater Chicago suburbs have recommendations for parks / trails / other good running spots? I probably wouldn't want to drive more than an hour or two outside of the city.
Thanks!
Thanks!

I was in the city a couple times this spring/summer and hit Busse Woods in Arlington Heights. There's a 7.7 mile asphalt trail that runs partly through the woods and mostly through a park. You can see the elk while you're out there too!

I run in Busse Woods too when I have to go to Schaumburg for business. Dave-O and others run at Waterfall Glen and I've run a hilly course (hilly for Chicago) in Barrington.
Re: places to run in Chicago suburbs
Yes, Busse is a great location! You can even take that trail all the way up to the Botanical Gardens and run through there.
There is also Waterfall Glen.
If you like to run trails in the woods, Palos has some.
I found this link useful..it lists out all of the different places you can run:

In addition to Busse and Waterfall Glen, my favorite place to run are the Tinley Park Forest Preserve trails.
Here's a pdf of the full map. http://fpdcc.com/downloads/maps/pdf/R8.pdf
The purple loop is 3.1 miles around George Dunn golf course. I usually park at the entrance to that loop, which is right off highway 57 south (so about 25 miles south of the city).
The green trail is a 1.6 mile connection to the red loop, which is 9.4 miles. Mostly flat with just some rolling hills, paved. Almost all through forest preserve.

Deer Grove Forrest Reserve in Palatine is another nice place to run.

Lots of great options! Thank you all!
I wanna do 10-11 miles this weekend so I think that green trail and red loop in Tinley Park would be perfect. Over the next few months, I definitely want to check out all these places, though!

Independence Grove in Libertyville is one of my favorite places to run. Park at Adler park on Milwaukee Ave. for free and run the DPRT North to Independence Grove.
Other great ones: Old School Forest Preserve, Schiller Woods near O'Hare

Water Fall Glen gets my vote. Go down to the falls and soak or just look after the run!

Re: places to run in Chicago suburbs
2 years later....I'm wrapping up my time in Chicago. I don't have time to run at all of the places suggested....but I did run the 9.5 mile loop at Tinley Park and the 7.5 mile loop at Busse Woods. I tried to run the Desplaines River Trail, but I didn't realize it wasn't paved and went after 3 days of heavy rain--super deep mud that wasn't run-able. I'm back in town in July and will hit Waterfall Glen on that trip.

And where will you be heading, next? I remember something about Colorado, but I don't know if that's still in the cards.

Are you just moving around to live in different areas while you still can or are these job assignments? One of my nurses in Boston was a traveling nurse. She was new to the big city and struggling to learn how to use the public transportation but loving the opportunities that were available to her.
I've heard Denver is very nice!

I'm moving to do further training. Instead of general internal medicine I'm going to specialize in liver disease, and so going to University of Colorado for fellowship training.
I've heard Denver is great too. I've been a few times and excited to live there soon!

I hope you come by and give us small tidbits of information about the liver. Like "The Liver for the Layman and other Dummies like Ounce." I don't know much about the liver and with things medical, I usually have to learn what I know because of something that happened to somebody.
