Chicago - PW becomes PB
I'll get this out of the way right away....I came in at 5:43:xx, one of my worst times....BUT.....it was the best time ever! As far as the race goes...weather was perfect. I ran the first 19 miles or so with our Barry! That was so great. He's the perfect person to run with and when I realized that I wasn't going to be able to maintain my speed, I just tucked in behind him at a water station and let him run off into the distance for a PR. Awesome. I racewalked a good portion of the last 10k and I enjoyed every minute of it.
The 365 dinner was the best ever. Really nice to finally meet up with Lisa, Shuey, Mrs. Dave-O (Brittany sp?), Pete and Stephen Foster and Toni (wife or partner) and seeing Dave-O again.. It was like being with family sitting with John P, Stephen and Anke! Dinner was so delicious and the company outstanding. This long weekend felt like a fantastic vacation. Loved it!
I have to admit that I'm glad the marathon itself is over so I can go back and concentrate on my halfs which really is my niche.
Interesting to note: Met a runner from Germany wandering the streets after the marathon looking for a cab and she mentioned that she was in the back of the pack and they actually ran out of medals!!! What?? The Chicago marathon would run out of medals? How does that happen since it sells out so early.
Onward!!

Great weekend, yeah! This city definitely puts on a great event, Cary is a really cool and personable guy too. I knew I should have only took 1 medal, eeeek! Kidding, of course. Nice meeting with you and yeah Toni is wife of 22 years.

Dot,
Congratulations on toughing it out! It was an absolute joy running with you and I can say with certainty that it was your discipline with pacing and sticking with your plan that kept me from going out too fast and blowing up in later miles as I've done four other times previous! And, yes, there were a few miles that you pulled me along. So it's our PR!

Dot IS fun to run with. We have put in more than a few miles together at the "Howl at the Moon" 8-hour ultra at Danville.
I don't do road race much anymore, but Dot - we need to do a half together sometime!
Are you doing the Monumental Half this November?

Glad to here that you had a great time, even though it was not your best race. It's not always about getting a PR...

Thanks for the kind words. While I would have loved to get a PR, I really wasn't trained for it and in my heart I knew it.
You are a true gentleman and it was wonderful to run with you!
Yep, all signed up for the half. You?

Re: Chicago - PW becomes PB
Hmm . . . . well. I am doing something the next three weekends:
October 13 - a trial walk/run of the Indiana Trail 100 route with the co-director - probably slow and easy for photos.
October 20 - the Turbo Turtle 50k - a fatass event in Morgan/Monroe - I may do just 20 miles or so or maybe the whole thing
October 27 - the Knobstone Trail Mini - again slow and easy and I will probably get the DFL award!
And then on November 3 I had thought about the OPSF mini, but not sure about it.
It WOULD be fun with you sister!
But . . . I might consider the Monumental HM.
Do you have a time goal? If so, what - pray tell?
Would you take short walk breaks now and then?
Let me know and I will think about it!

Great to hear that you're doing well. It has been a while.
We're doing Monumental too so perhaps we can meet up there.

Yippee....glad to hear it, Charles! That'll be a good time for sure. My dad (going on 90 yrs old) should be spectating and I'm hoping to get Gene out there to accompany him. While I was looking forward to the last half marathon of the season, I'm really looking forward to it now!!

Re: Chicago - PW becomes PB
Saw Cary last night at the CARA appreciation dinner and he asked if anybody hadn't got a medal and apparently brought some in his trunk. He was quite embarrased apparently and was very apologetic.dot520 wrote:
