Re: Our Runners at Grandma's
Sweet running! I heard it was a great day to run!
Another friend of mine who's already qualified for the OTs PR'd with a 2:39 and change... the 'and change' cost her the A standard, but she was pretty happy nonetheless! RUN MORE!

And, thanks to her, I ran a 24 minute PR.
A 24 minute PR is huge and remember that it was you running it and not your coach. Take some credit.
Oh, I know it was me running it. But still, it is thanks to her that I was able to do what I did. I have been stuck around nearly the same, seemingly too slow for my abilities, time since 2007. What Wendy has provided me has been not only coaching, but also a lot of new ways to approach my running mentally, etc. So while I am exceptionally proud of myself - I am so, incredibly grateful to Wendy for helping me (begin to) bring out of myself the runner that I know is actually in there. Anyway - I will save the rest for the race report!
SJ - Congratulations on a fantastic race. You've got to be on the top of the world with a result like that! All that training paid off on race day and it looks like you were able to execute exactly to plan. Way to go!!
And Tim, I don't know, there is something about Wendy and a 24 minute PR - when I ran Eugene with her last month I too ended up with a 24 minute PR, so you can bet I'll be rubbing her head for luck in Chicago!!
Don't get me wrong, I'm not taking anything away from the training advice/coaching of Wendy. It obviously worked. All I was trying to say to SJ was that she was the one that ran an awesome race and to take great pride in what she accomplished.
In any sport, all a coach can do is get the athlete in a position to excel, but it is up to the athlete to perform. And SJ performed.
That being said, I'd rub Wendy's head too if I was running Chicago.
Maybe how I posted it just came out wrong. Wendy did a great job in preparing SJ and SJ ran a great race. Both should be proud.

My starting slow and finishing strong was all prescribed. Quite specifically. I wish I could take credit, but it is ALL due to my wonderful/amazing/awesome/intelligent/inspirational/talented coach Wendy Miller. She has completely changed how I think about myself as a runner and how I approach running and races. And, thanks to her, I ran a 24 minute PR. And conservatively! A full report to come when I am done with all this fun family time.
Thanks for the support. Us full marathoners fared much better than poor Matt...it was POURING rain this morning...and though it stopped in time for us, the half marathoners took a bit of a hit!
Congrats - I was thinking of you when I was driving yesterday! Awesome run, SJ. I think you'll be running with me in NY.

Re: Our Runners at Grandma's
I'm working on the long and winding race report, but -
I did post a 35 second PR in the first 10K and a 1:04 PR for the first half marathon - then things went south.
But I passed 310 people in the last 6.1 miles, 60 of them in the last 1.2 miles.
