Does Foot Form Explain Running Injuries?
Some evidence is starting to emerge that running on your forefoot, compared to heel-striking, may decrease your injury risk.

Key finding:
More interesting was the distribution of injuries. About two-thirds of the group wound up hurt seriously enough each year to miss two or more training days. But the heel strikers were much more prone to injury, with a twofold greater risk than the forefoot strikers.

I would imagine the heel could be a result of all the discrepancies up the line in the body's effort to execute a stride. All the misalignments, results of time, growing up, developing, poor posture, and surgeries reaches the culmination of how the last part of the body touches the ground to propel us forward.
So, the heel is the point of attention due to injury, but can it really be assessed full blame?

I think you'll find a whole subculture - we call them 'barefoot runners' - who would say the evidence has been there for years.
