Gearing Up Or Down?
Yeah sure Oz, I will try. LOL. I hope I do a good job over there. My meteorological knowledge still needs some help. As far as my run. It was not too bad. A little more heat, but I lived through it.
I was at 15:45 for the first two miles and ran a 7:30 pace the rest of the way to give me a 52:45 for 7 miles. Again, not too bad. I have to stay home tomorrow with a sick toddler, so the run will be at home and I will be working from home. Also, I have to start my rewrites tomorrow. Just too much fun for a fella to have. I have 19 miles this week.

Rolling In The Days
Thursday, easy day. 53:30 ( 7 miles) and done. Not too bad. Today, I pushed it more. More humid. More heat, (ok, 75)...First two miles 15:45 the last five miles, 37:00 for a 52:45. I can say that my gastrocs bothered me a bit, but that was due to lack of hydration. I should be ok for tomorrow. I have 34 miles this week.
Cold Week Ahead
Saturday was a tough one. Hot, humid and disgusting. I knew it was coming and prepared for it. It was a 7:42 pace for most if, 53:59 for the 7 miles to give me 42 miles for the week. Sunday was good. Not great, but at least a little cooler. It was 75 upstairs and 55 outside. Who is fooling who here? Sigh. 7:30 pace for 5 miles giving me a 37:30 for the total. I was happy with it. Now, today, looks to be at home. It is just cooler at my house ( although rushed) and I can pound it out better. I have 5 miles this week.
Cool Cool Beans
Rushed Run, but good one. Started out at a 7:36 pace for two miles (15:12) then went 7:24 pace for the next four (29:34) and finished with a 44:46 for 6 miles. Felt good. Legs felt great. I am good. I have 11 miles this week.
Working Man
Yep, that is what I am. LOL. I took yesterday off. Just did not have time to put in a run. This morning, shake out run of sorts. The first two miles were at 17 minutes and my legs felt really fresh. I did step ups from 7:30 pace all way down to a 7:24 pace to give me 22:40 for the last three miles. Not bad. I ended up with a 39:40 for 5 miles. I will run 7 miles this afternoon. I am thinking a steady 7:30 pace the whole way. I have 16 miles this week.

This Year Of All Years
After this year of injuries, extreme heat and just not caring about running, this is nice. This cold air is like a joy to me.
As Usual
As usual, I got rushed. Well, it is that time of year. I got in what I could, which was 5 miles. This one was paced variety. 15 minutes for the first two miles, 22:19 for the last three. Last mile was at a 7:19 pace. I am starting to feel something again. Not bad. I have 21 miles this week.
Re: Clawing My Way Back
I have found that I don't want to run when it's less than 30 degrees outside, with a breeze. I have 3 layers on and I'm getting acclimated, but Wednesday I got all ready, went outside, felt the wind, saw the frost and went back inside.
I'm a wuss.

Starting Fresh
Did not run Sunday. Had WAY too much to do. Yesterday, good run. I was cooking the middle three miles of 7 miles. I started a little slow, but the middle three miles, 7:09 pace. Really nice. 52:40 for 7 miles. I tweaked my hamstring. Not bad enough to stop running, but bad enough for ART. Today, 7:30 pace the whole way for 52:30. I will have ART tomorrow and it should be ok. I have 14 miles this week.
Tweaking
Letting the hamstring rest today. Will do a double tomorrow. I had ART done and that helped a ton. I just think this is best.
Stumbling Through
Half hamstring and half hernia ( or I do not know..LOL). The first mile was in 7:54 and the last 6 miles were at 44:50 to give me a 52:44 for 7 miles. It was bothering me, but the cool air was nice. Tonight will consist of ice and heat for it. ( Ibuprofen too..). Yesterday was miserable. It was hot, stuffy and humid. It was terrible. I ran a 54:30, but it was crappy. The last three miles were at a 7:36 pace, so I salvaged something. Oh I had a one mile warmup today. I have 29 miles this week.
Re: Clawing My Way Back
I know the weather, body and schedule are conspiring to drive you nuts, but I'm impressed how you keep pushing on - but still remembering to take a day off when you need it.

Out of Commission
Well, first I ran a 53:15 last night for 7 miles. It was rough. A little humid and well, my tweaked groin (yes, no hernia. Doc told me today) was horrible. After a throbbing pain last night, went to doc and verified this. I am done until December 26. Sigh. Well, I am replacing this with P90X (yes, I will be very easy on the groin) for one week. We shall see how that goes. First DVD today. I will be off the grid for running until December 26.
I Tried To Be Good
I really did. I took yesterday off. I really did. I did the first DVD of P90X. Man, that instructor is rough. Goodness. I am going to do the second DVD tonight. Well, I tried an experiment on me. I have been taking two Advil a day since yesterday ( I totally stop Saturday, doctor's orders) and I thought, let us see how far I can go without pain. I did. I did a 40 minute run. Yep, at an 8 minute striding pace. The pain came at the 39:45 mark. Humm. I am happy. I got 5 miles in. I will soak in ice tonight. That should do that trick. The plan is 40 minutes per day until Sunday.
Still Working On The Plan
Actually felt better yesterday than the day before. Not bad. 40 minutes cruising. I want to try 56 minutes cruising today. I did find out that my DC is out of the country until January 2. Sigh. Yeah, I am stuck with an 8 minute pace until then. Oh well. Again, I am thinking 56 minutes cruising today. I am also thinking next week will be that too. The two Advil is helping and so is BioFreeze. I have 17 miles this week.
Still Chugging Along
Well, nothing hurt today. I guess the backing off pace for a little while is working. Slow, but working. 56 minutes today for 7 miles and legs are good and groin is cooperating. I am happy. I have 24 miles this week.
Re: Clawing My Way Back
I think it's good that your DC left town, Michael. This imposed self-restraint seems to be doing you some good.
Keep at it!
Keep at it!

So Far So Good
Agreed....Agreed.... Again, easy run ( I was bored...LOL) 56 minute run. Nothing hurt. Everything seems to be ok. Last day on Advil, so we shall see on that. I finished with 32 miles this week. Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah to all.
Re: Clawing My Way Back
David said this morning there's no cold air up in Alaska and that we wouldn't have any cold air from there for the next two weeks, according to 'long range forecasts'. Do the long range forecasts usually just go out 2 weeks, because 3 weeks will be the marathon.
And it seems the sub-tropical jet has made it's winter appearance, this year. Wasn't the sub-tropical missing last winter?
Tapering time for me, as I finished my 20 miler last Friday in a good time.

Yeah, just two weeks, but but but but, the GFS has been totally wacky this year. This past week's snow, get this Oz, the NAM, yeah, the NAM got it right. I guess a broken clock gets it right sometimes. Right now, some models (GFS) has a dusting of snow in the 300 hour range. I jokingly thought it would be SO cool for it to snow on the Trials Marathon. LOL. To answer David, there is cold air "building" in Canada. Remember the source regions. Yes, it was sorta missing last year. Our rains were ok last year, but nothing like what we have had. We are starting to go into a drier period now. Great job on your 20 miler.
Football Week Of Bowls
Fun times. Dissertating, running and living. Fun. LOL. Still struggling with my dissertation ( what is new?) and running. I missed Sunday and Monday, so Tuesday was a back to work thing with running. Watching the Little Cesar's Pizza Bowl ( something about that just does not jive..LOL) I ran a 56 minute 7 miler. I was not hurting, but it hurt a little afterward. I am still going to lay off the Advil. I have not taken any since Saturday. I did a 10 minute cool down to give me 8 for the day. This week will be all that. 8 minute pace runs. I have to wait until my DC comes back into town for ART, so it is striding until then. Well, back to my dissertating.
Re: Clawing My Way Back
Yeah, Little Cesar's Pizza Bowl does sound strange. Who puts pizza in a bowl?
How about the KFC Bacon 'n Cheese Chicken Bowl? I smell a new thread coming.

Agreed. Hey Oz, did you hear about the Operation Jack Marathon this week? HARRA put out a communique on it. Interesting...

I saw that. I can't believe anyone would try to run a marathon at Memorial Park. The first Houston Marathon was there, but it included other roads near the park, too. Part of the course included a turnaround at a Pontiac station wagon.
