Fried At Home
I fried my surge protector. It died right at the 5 mile mark of my run. I am glad I got my run. Again, non inspired run, but I am ok. 39:30 for 5 miles and I am gunning for tomorrow. Oh and it got to 105 today, forecast for 105 tomorrow, and 101 for Wednesday. Lovely.
Re: Clawing My Way Back
Another great day in H-Town. If we hit 100 tomorrow ( we will), that will be 30 out of 31 days over 100. The last 6 have been 105 and over. Woo Hoo. Houston Intercontinental Airport Lat: 29.97 Lon: -95.35 Elev: 95 Last Update on Aug 30, 2:53 pm CDT | |

Pulling On The Soleus
Well, I figured something out. My newer pair of orthotics do not pull on my soleus ( right). My older pair do. My newer pair of orthotics pull on my achilles ( left) and my older pair do not. Now, I need to get the two paired together. I ran 5 miles at 39:30. Still hot and humid. Tomorrow, another 100 degree day. I have 10 miles. I will run with my older pair of orthotics tomorrow and will have to get them adjusted to finally fix my problems.
Re: Clawing My Way Back
Dam it is hot for you. It is good you know your body well and how orthodics work for you!
100 Degree Days
Yeah, we got one more. Just one more and we should be done for the year. That will be 30 out of 31 days in August with 100 degree days. Dear Lord.
Re: Clawing My Way Back
The summer has been bad here, but nothing like yours. Hope it cools soon! Weather patterns have been strange this year to say the least.
At least you're still getting your miles in.

We have you beat. It was 112 on Sunday, 109 on Monday, and 108 yesterday. And we're at 75 days over 100 degrees.
I hate Texas.

Barely. I injured my soleus last night ( although not too bad). I am thinking of using 2 hours of sick time and go get ART done today. I should be able to get 7 miles in today. It is supposed to get to 100 today, then 94 and then downward. They are speaking of a cold front coming. They are also speaking of tropical mischief. Who knows what this weekend will bring.

Well Ken, this is the HOTTEST summer ever for Texas. The hottest. I hate it too. We have 36 days over 100, but you all in Austin have been getting kicked in the head. This year has been the worst
Humm
First, I did not want to run. Second, with the Soleus acting up, I was not sure I could. Third, I pushed it from 4 to 8 pm. Then, I finally convinced myself to run. I started at a 8:34 pace and started to ramp it up. The last 2 miles were at a 7:24 pace, so what does that say. Who knows. I ended up with a 39:30 for 5 miles. I have 15 miles this week. Tomorrow, I am going to get ART done and then hit 9 total miles.

WORST. SUMMER. EVER.
Liz R wrote:Sucks today, but next week i see temps in the low 70s! We.ll be wearing our coats.
Yeah I know. I am trying to talk myself into running 5 miles at the YMCA. I do not want to, but I really must. I had to go in early today.....

Do they have a track or do you use a treadmill?

YMCA
The run got canceled. A met friend of mine called and that did it. I will try to run tonight, but that might not work. Yes, the YMCA has a track. It is a parking lot in the back and there is a sorta kinda of circle striped for 13 laps to a mile. No, I have never used it. I use the treadmills.
Humidty Rocks
Figured I would take another spin on this. The run was tough, but doable. I started off at a 8:34 pace and went through the first two miles at 16:45. Well, I then ramped it up to the point where I was running a 7:30 pace and finished with a 39:30 for 5 miles. My soleus is sorta cramping, but ok. The last three miles were at 22:45. Not bad. I will run 7-9 miles this afternoon. I have 20 miles this week.

Good job getting it done. Pull back if it gets worse, but some slight pains are always part of the process.

Funked Out Five
Again, still dealing with funk issues. Wife says I need to talk to someone about my confidence. I tell wife, I love you, but ( she is a counselor and a psychologist) this is a mind thing runners go through. After the summer we have had, this has compounded itself in me. I just did five. I did not feel like running, but I gave it a shot at 5. 5 is my minimum. Well, it was not too bad. I started at 8:34 pace and by the time I hit the 2.5 mile mark, I was at a 7:24 pace. Weird huh? I ended with a 37:30 for 5 miles and that should give me a good boost for next week. It will be cooler ( yea!!) and I should need about 5-6 52:30 7 milers to really get the confidence up. I ended with 30 miles this week, but I am sorta happy.
Cool Nights and Warm Days
Well, Sunday I ran one mile. I was hoping to get in at least 5 miles, but we had to move a filing cabinet into my wife's practice office, so that took care of that. Yesterday, I wanted 7 miles, but children, family and such got in the way. I was going to get up at 5:30 am with the wife, but our child either is getting sick or is dealing with stomach issues and she went upstairs to be with him all night. So no run then. Well, I have enough time to get in 5 miles this lunch time and will have enough time to get another 5 miles this evening. This has just a weird summer. Still on track ( I hope) for 45 miles this week. This run today will be a one mile warmup and a 7:42 to 7:30 pace run. My hope is ART this week and adjusting of the orthotics to get rid of the Achilles pain on the left foot( yep, still have it since May) and the soleus on the right leg. At least it is cooler now. Will I get to run the Monster Mash 10K? Who knows. Let me get back to a consistent 7:30 pace for 7 miles and then we talk.
What Is Normal?
Trying to find that here. Well, I ran 5 miles. It was ok. It was hot and humid in the YMCA. Yeah, go figure, it is cool and dry outside. I bet it was the walkers in the morning. I ran a 37:30 with a one mile warmup. The positives are that I am finally running at a 7:30 pace again. It felt ok, but the soleus was tweaking. I will make an appointment with the orthotics folks today to get this fixed. I am hoping to get this fixed tomorrow. This fall, I am getting everything fixed. I want a good fall. I will jog 4-5 miles today if I get out of work early enough. I have 6 miles this week.
Compression Socks For Dummies
Me. I am wearing compression socks today and my legs feel great. Really great. I am going to go to Lukes at lunch and get some running compression socks. I have recovery socks on now. If the running compression socks can ( I believe they can) hold my soleus together, we are in business. At least until they heal. The plan today is a one mile warmup and six miles at 45 minutes. If I can get 52 minutes out of them, I am happy. I am hoping to get the orthotic folks to see me this week, but it might not happen. Sigh.
Re: Clawing My Way Back
Seems you are grinding out the miles when you can with pretty good success. I find compression sleeves or socks work great for me when running and after for recovery. Nice job on the runs!

I know, I am wearing them now. Wow. No pulling, no tightness. I love it. Now the socks I have are for recovery, not running. Fortunately, Lukes is right down the road, so this will not take long to get them and get back to work. I have not even thought about the socks until today. Sigh.
Compression Socks III
Got em. CEP's. They got a good write up in Runner's World, so I am hopeful. My 2XU Recovery socks are really doing the job on my achilles ( left leg) and soleus (right leg). Now, will that translate into this evening's run. We shall see. My goal today is 45 minutes for my running at a 7:30 pace with a one mile warmup. That is it. I will wear the compression socks and see what happens. If the legs feel like they do now, we should be good to go.
CEP
Kenny B. wrote:CEP's heard are good enjoy them and hope they serve you well!
I hope so too. We shall find out at 4:45 pm
