Didn't you go to a football game the other night? How was it? I think a preseason game would be fun to see the rookies play...

It was ok. A lot of folks for a pre season game. Lots of Saints fans..(my brother in law and wife included). More to come later. Gotta get my son ready for school.
Pre Season Part II
Like I said, it was ok. Lots of cheering and yelling from both sides. The walk in was cool from the train. First time we had ever taken the train and our boy loved it. It was not as rowdy as last year's Cowboys/Texans game, but then again, the stadium was half and half. For me today, just maintaining. 7 miles. 52:30. 7:30 pace. 7 songs. KISS ( Keep it simple stupid).

Oh! Little boys and trains! I miss those days.
Are we going to get some rain out of Irene?

Yeah, he loves them. Rain, no, but it will force troughs downward and finally move the High Pressure Ridge of Death out of here. That will, in turn, mean fronts and mean something in the form of rain:
It may seem incredulous to some that the vaunted "heat ridge from Hell" will meet its demise (or at least retrogression) due to a storm that likely will make landfall over the Carolinas on Saturday, August 27 (most likely target point: Myrtle Beach SC). But Irene is not just any ordinary tropical cyclone, at least from what the numerical models are showing. Interacting with two frontal structures, the hurricane will trigger almost biblical amounts of rain (with lots of wind) across parts of Appalachia and the entire Eastern Seaboard. The second cold front out of Canada behind Irene will be pulled much further south and east than its predecessors, likely reaching Texas and the Gulf Coast on Sunday, August 28. With a broad weakness or diffuse trough falling in behind the hurricane, a trend toward cooler and drier weather will begin next week. The temperature drop will not be much, and it is possible that the dewpoints may bounce back by the time Labor Day weekend arrives. Still, something is better than nothing. The famed hellish subtropical high will slip back into its familiar position over the Desert Southwest, thus allowing Houston to take a breather from the sultry, smoggy heat of summer.

Yeah well, I am shooting for it. The running I can do, the soleus (if it lets me) will be the deciding factor.
No Run Yesterday
Let me say this. I am not pleased. My meeting that I had scheduled for one hour went two and half. As a director, I am not happy right now. I did not get to run. Not pleased at all. I will get to run at 12 noon today and should be able to make it up this week, but still not pleased.
At Least Something Is Better Than Nothing
I had every intention of running 6 miles on this run. I really did, but I could not breathe. It was SOOO humid in the YMCA, that it was impossible to get comfortable. At least I got something in. I did run 1 mile at a 7:24 pace, so all was not lost. I was at least happy that I did run a 7:30 most of the way. 37:30 for 5 miles. I have a 1:30 to 4:30 pm meeting today. If we get out earlier, I can pop in a 5 miler. We shall see.
Morning Madness
Actually, it was not that bad. All things considered, it was not that bad. 10 minute mile warmup led to a 39:30 5 miler in the end. Now, I have a 7 miler this afternoon at 4 pm, but again, with a warmup, it seem to be ok. I have 10 miles this week.
Beyond Stupid
Dear Lord, this is gone beyond stupid. We have had highs around 100-101 for the past three weeks now. Get this folks, we are even going higher. This is just stupid. I know in meteorological terms, stupid is not a term, but damn.

I told you we would see 105 and possibly 110....and you doubted the schmuck with no meteorological experience. I know Houston weather and it is DAMN HOT RIGHT NOW!
All the news guys are saying we may have to up the forecast of 104-105 even higher depending on what happens with the cold front (that won't hit us) but will knock out the humidity. Funny thing is I will take 72-74 for the low right now if it means I don't have to see another 80+ low for the rest of the year.

I agree Joel. I do. I really do. This Godzilla High Pressure Ridge has just got to go. Now. LOL
Easy Effort
Wow. Just wow. How come all runs cannot be like these two I have had? Wow. Easy pace. Easy effort. No struggling. Nothing. 5 miles. 7:54 pace. 39:30. Effortless. It was hot (80) and humid (69 percent humidity), but I felt no strain. Ahh. I have 15 miles this week.
Re: Clawing My Way Back
Another 30 days before the apex of hurricane season. With all the stress on the trees, not having a hurricane this year would be a good thing, unless you own a tree trimming business.
Back to running, though, I, too, have had some good runs in the early warm mornings. Preview of what's to happen once Fall arrives and our highs are in the low 90's? Time will tell.

Well, it only got up to 94 today. Wow, we broke the consecutive streak at 24.
Still Dealing With A Soleus
Until my soleus feels great, it is at this pace. Today was only 5 miles because I was in meetings from 8 am to 3 pm today and I was pooped. Tomorrow, 5 miles at 39:30 and 6-7 miles in the afternoon at 7:54 pace. I do need ART too/ 39:30 for 5 miles ( striding) and I have 20 miles this week.
Lake Houston 5K
Well I ran 5 miles at 39:30 last night. Not bad. Felt ok. I got up at 5:30 am to sherpa my nephew in his run. I was not expecting what happened. He did really, really well. We did not get passed by anyone. He ran a 26:00 for 5K. It could have been faster, but I am guessing. The clock was set on the 10Kers. I was really proud of him. Get this, my legs felt great. My soleus loosened up. I did not feel my Achilles after the first 1/2 mile. Oh and the heat got to everyone. I swear the carnage was worse than last year. Well I have a 7 miler today and I am done for the week. I have 28 miles this week.
Edit: It was 80 at the start....I must edit the time. It was a 29:22 and he got 4 th in his age group. Again, his Uncle Mike is very proud of him..

Glad the at was a non issue!
Yeah, he loved it. I mean he was singing the whole way and I was coaching him every step of the way. My non issue. Yeah, me too. It felt really good. It was hot and dadgum humid, but I felt really good. Today's run was good. I mean it was a 7:41 pace most of the way. That is the attitude I am going to take this week. No pushing, just relaxing. It is going to cool off late next week, so I just need to take it in stride. I ran a 54:00 for 7 miles. That gives me 35 miles for the week. Oh yeah, it is 109 outside. Dear God in Heaven....Sigh...

Hoping So
Liz R wrote:Yep, weather sucks.

Gosh, I hope so. This summer has been one to write home about. By the way, the inner coach in me came out. This is my plan for the next two weeks. This week, with temperatures in the 100's until Friday, I am going to run at a 7:54 to 7:48 pace for 7 miles. Starting Labor Day, (with temperatures in the upper 80's). we get back to a 7:30 pace.
Going Home
Yep, I do not want to deal with the humidity, so I will run 7 miles at home today. It will be a rush, but I need to get it done. Forcast high today, 106. Lovely.
