Re: Laugh at the Rules
Yes Julie, you are correct! Can you believe this great weather??
I run 4 on Saturday and 9 on Sunday. Beautiful weather. I think I should have worn shorts Sunday! I only needed to do 5 but I just didn't want to stop running!

Re: Laugh at the Rules
I had shorts and my long sleeves rolled up but I went in the afternoon yesterday. Last week was my first bigger week since my Sept. marathon. I hope you don't get snow tomorrow, I guess we're supposed to.

Re: Laugh at the Rules
Brrrrr run tonight! Just 3 miles.
Signed up for the Lincoln Half. It's 80% full already! I almost signed up for the full (with the option of switching to half) but I decided the speedwork for half training will be good for me and Winter/Spring weather here wouldn't be as much fun for me to train in as it is in summer/fall.

Re: Laugh at the Rules
Woke up early this morning and got on the elliptical--I had planned to work out tonight, but since I was up...My goal was to work out everyday this week, so on my non-running days instead of resting I was going to elliptical or a Y class. This will be a tough week--pot luck at school for lunch, party tonight, friends for dinner Friday, family dinner Saturday---all high calorie meals, at least the ones I am cooking! Hoping the extra couple days of workouts will help fend off the pounds!

I have signed up for the full. Have some friends coming from out of state to run it as well. I may switch down to the half, depending on how Boston goes. Hope the training continues to go well for you.

Re: Laugh at the Rules
No matter how determined I get this time of year to be careful about the food intake, it seems to be a loosing battle. God forbid that I should give up though, then the pounds will really go up!
Hope you survive the week Peg.

Re: Laugh at the Rules
I'm thinking about volunteering for the Lincoln marathon (if I run a spring one it'll be Oklahoma City) but I hope to see you there one way or another. If I don't volunteer I'll be spectating for the first half because I have a bunch of friends running either the half and the full. So if I see any of you I will yell loudly, if nothing else. Let me know if you want anything else like twizzlers or another candy or whatever. (jacket drop off, whatever).

Re: Laugh at the Rules
I always gain too--and it seems like I usually don't see it on the scale until after New Years. The last few years I've had the yearly miles goal to at least help me keep getting out the door!
Julie, hope to see you! Jon, maybe you too!

Re: Laugh at the Rules
I went to the Body Pump class at the y yesterday. It was fun. I kept the weights as light as can be, thank goodness. Not used to lunges, etc. But when it came to the pushups I could do it! I will go back again!
I think I'm going to make the goal this week of working out every day. Yesterday was almost a zero--last day of school for the semester and teachers were gathering. I joined them but kept my intake to one red beer and then water. Then I hit the grocery store before going to the Y so that beer really didn't affect my workout.
The forecast for this weekend is 40s so that should make for good running.
Happy Festivus! Merry Christmas!

Re: Laugh at the Rules
I hope you get some good running in! Sleeping is is pretty appealing when it's cold and dark but I'm also going to plan to run every day over Christmas vacation (which is only a few days but going to be spending time with my parents so it should be good). Merry Christmas and happy new year!

Re: Laugh at the Rules
Same to you and your family Julie!
I made it out for 6 yesterday, in between cleaning and cooking. It was nice but a little too windy. One of my miles with the wind was 9:00!
Then we had much to eat and drink! It was a good time.

Re: Laugh at the Rules
December 24: 6.2 miles.
December 25: 7 miles. Gorgeous weather both days!!!
December 26: 40 minutes Body Pump class. It was a little easier this time, but also shorter, so I think 3 sets were left out. The noon class is a bit shorter.
I made my goal of working out every day last week! With all the fesitvities I'm glad I did, but it was a bit of a challenge getting out on Christmas Day! Since that was day 7 out of 7, it was necessary! Once I got out though, it was such a beautiful late afternoon that I tacked on a couple extra. I hit 29 for the week!
Christmas was wonderful! We had so much fun!

Re: Laugh at the Rules
Glad to hear you had fun and had some good running! I took today off since it was a travel day and I couldn't work up the ambition to tackle my parents' hills one more time. Oh well, right?

Re: Laugh at the Rules
Juilie where do your parents live?
MOnday I did the noon Body Pump-just 40 mins. That wasn't quite as tough as the 60 minute one. They leave out 3 sets and switch it out on Wednesday, so today I might go back for the class again.
Tuesday I ran 4--didn't have much time for more.
I'm making soup out of leftover prime rib...never tried that before so wish me luck!

Re: Laugh at the Rules
The soup sounds great! My parents live west of Norfolk so there are very very flat spots and then big hills, too. Going out from my parents' home 3 miles for an out and back 6 I think I had to tackle 5 hills (each way of course )

Re: Laugh at the Rules
The soup was great! I would make it again for sure! I also baked bread. I don't know why I don't do that more often. It was delicious and easy!
40 minute body pump class yesterday and then I ran a slow 4 miles. Legs could feel the extra workout! Today my buns are sore from the lunges!
Maybe this year I actually do the stretch/strengthen part of the training plan! I am hoping to make it to one body pump class a week--maybe two in January before the half training starts up.
I'm feeling good, but a little nervous: I've worked out (not all running) 12 days in a row with no rest day--I'm trying to get some more miles in for the year so I don't want to rest until Sunday, Jan 1! Also, this weather is just fantastic! Even though it is not possible for me to break last year's mileage total, I am closing in on 1300 right now, with 3 days left in the year!

Re: Laugh at the Rules
Ten miles on Thursday. It was slightly overcast, 52, and little wind! I ran the first half in new shoes--felt pretty good, but wanted to take the dog out so I put on old ones and headed to the gravel with him for the second half. Overall pace was 10:45. Legs felt pretty good, especially the first five. The gravel I was on was super soft and slowed me down. Not muddy, just soft.
3 miles today in the new shoes again. Very easy and slow. It was windy but not cold.

Re: Laugh at the Rules
5 miles this morning, the last day of the year! Beauty weather, 35 and little wind, but it's supposed to get windy and rainy later.
That made 5 days in a row for me running, which I never do. And 15 in a row for workouts altogether, as I had a couple Y classes in there and an elliptical day. I am certainly looking forward to my rest day tomorrow!
I finished the year with 1315 miles, a little less than last year but that's ok! I think my snow shoveling injury in January had me in the hole in that regard, plus the surgery in October. My December miles ended up 119! More than Jan and Feb together, and more than March, April or May! We had some great weather this month!
Happy New Year!

So, what did you put in the soup, if I may ask?

Soup REcipe
Mostly followed that recipe, but I didn't use any noodles, and I did add a little bit of crushed tomoates (not a whole can--just for a little extra flavor). It was very good!

You are putting together a good string of training - what is your next race?

I guess the next race is the Animal Run in February- a 5 mile. A ten mile in march....probably a 10K in April....the Lincoln Half in may. Training for the half starts in a few weeks, but I've been hitting the miles pretty hard without actually training for anything--mostly so I wouldn't gain holiday pounds! Also, I knew if I could average 25 mi per week in December I would break 1300 for the year so that really kept me motivated, plus the nice December weather we had!
