Well, I'm happy to note that I beat Mario Lopez - I guess I wasn't following him that day or I might not have.
I can say that I beat Mike Dukakis as we ran the same race on the same day. I also ran NYC with a friend in 2005, and we beat a girl - Vanessa something or other - who is a singer and sang the hit song "1000 Miles" which was popular at the time. She came in 2 min behind us.

That would be Vanessa Carlton (don't ask me why I know that)

As a recovering cycling addict I have had breaking Lance's PR on my bucket list for some time now. I read that he was planning on taking a shot at sub 2:30 in Chicago this year. Will be interesting to see how close he gets to that it if he actually makes it to the race with all the grand jury nonsense.

Re: You are only as good as your last marathon, marathon list!
Here's my take on Lance...
The reason for using PEDs is to raise your game. If you are a professional cyclist, using PEDs will make you a better professional cyclist.
Lance has some physical traits that make him a better cyclist than his peers. His VO2Max is off the charts.
But if you go back to his Tour victories and look at who he shared the podium with, all of them either admitted to using PEDs or tested positive for PEDs. I just don't see how Lance was able to be that much better than his peers who were all doping.
Then you look at this former "teammates" that left for other teams. A number of them tested positive for PEDs. So Lance and his team were clean, but then they decided not to be clean when they switched teams? It just seems odd.
The problem Lance has now is that there is no way he could ever come clean after the years of denial, the whole Livestrong thing, and convincing the world to wear a little rubber band in support of his efforts.
This is where he is different from a Barry Bonds. Barry didn't snowball the population into supporting him. He denied it, but no one believed him. No one felt cheated because Bonds used PEDs. But if Lance admitted it or finally tested positive, the fallout would be massive. I bet NIKE stock would tank too.

You know Tim I agree with what you are saying. I find really hard to believe that he wasn't using PED's and your right I don't think there is no way he can come clean. He is in way to deep but with that being said I still don't know if NIKE stock would tank. Sure the stock might take a hit but they have so many athlete's that Lance is just a small part of their line. Look at Tiger sure it is a different case but he was huge for NIKE and they moved a long just fine with his whole deal. Again they are two different cases but NIKE has had a lot of athlete's do some dumb things. What NIKE will do is ride Lance for all he is worth and when the time comes they will drop him like a bad habit and move on to the next money maker. Again NIKE is so much bigger then Lance. I have to admit I have never liked the whole Livestrong thing and have never bought a single Livestrong item. Whether he has taken PED's or not I have never been a big fan of his.

I know Nike is huge and not tied to one marketing campaign, but what I was referring to was the significance of the Livestrong line within Nike's offerings. Tiger stuff was limited to golf which is not that large a category for them. Nike has integrated the Livestrong brand within almost everything, from Livestrong colored running shoes, to Livestrong golf bags and everything in between. Livestrong is Lance. So a tarnished Lance = a tarnished Livestrong brand.

In other words, the signs the pacers carry all have the celebrity's picture on them and the bib you can wear has the person's picture and time also. It's the RD's humor, but I find it funny. They even have Pi pacers for those wanting to run a 3.14......

If that link works, the pace team "bios" are listed at the bottom.
On a side note, this past Feb. when I just missed my BQ time, I consoled myself with the fact that at least I had beaten Sarah Palin's time.
That is AWESOME! Love it - like his sense of humor.

If Nike can survive: (a) Kobe attempting to put it in the wrong hole in Colorado; (b) Tiger sticking it to every porn star and pancake house waitress in sight; and (c) LeBron taking his talents to South Beach and becoming the most hated athlete of my lifetime....I think it survive Lance admitting to what everyone already believes.

I agree with all of that, but what I'm trying to say is that the "LIVESTRONG" brand is integrated further into the company than any of the other athletes. Show me a Tiger Woods running shoe, or a King James golf bag, or a Kobe Sport Band and I'll change my mind.
Hell, Nike even has a link to the LIVESTRONG collection on their homepage.
The Nike LIVESTRONG collection includes special versions of running shoes, clothes, duffel bags, backpacks, hats, Nike+ Sport Bands, golf bags, and the list goes on and on. Just check out http://www.store-laf.org/ and look at all the Nike products.
A tarnished LIVESTRONG brand would hurt them more than a hated LeBron.
Re: You are only as good as your last marathon, marathon list!
The record for the jogging stroller is at least as low as 2:37 something. The guy who won the 2009 St. Louis marathon did it a year or so later. His name is Zach something.

If that happens the Oregon football team will have to cut back to only 2,087 different uniforms.

I won't argue with the majority of your post except to say that the Jordan Jumpman brand is far more intergrated and integral to Nike's success than Livestrong.

Livestrong will always survive because there's no better story than a cancer survivor winning the TDF 7 times, regardless of whether he used PED's (which really only put him on a level playing field). I'd prefer my tax dollars not be used for this investigation. The USOC has already been found guilty(by us) of disregarding positive drug tests and allowing the US to unfairly win medals and waiting until years later to let the IOC castigate those folks. If I were a lawyer I'd rather go after the USOC rather than LA.
Right now, of course, the bigger story should be FIFA and the bribery scandal that should let Chicago get back in the running to host the WC. Do they still prosecute cases at the Hague?

I agree that going after Lance is a waste of dollars.
As a soccer fan, I'm very disturbed about FIFA and Seth Blatter's reign of corruption. There is no question that Dubai bought the WC over the US bid.
One big difference between the US and Spain is that here we attack our stars looking for something to tarnish them with. In Spain, they accept that Contador ate tainted beef and don't suspend him.

Not only is Contador a doper but also a cheat and poor cycling sport. He would have lost that TDF if not for a broken chain by Andy Schleck. If I was a racing competitor I would have waited for him because I'd want to go toe to toe, not go off and hide.

I forgot about the purpose of the main thread. I believe that Dana Carvey ran a 3:04. I'm glad I beat him by a few minutes but would have loved to hear some jokes at the starting line.

RE: Contador v. Schleck. Slipped chain, not broken. And Contador would've taken him in the TT without any problems whatsoever. (I agree with you, pretty shitty move, and this is why I still can't accept Contador as the next big thing in cycling, but still... he is.)
Re: You are only as good as your last marathon, marathon list!
and to think I almost forgot - I ran with Will Ferrell in Boston in either 2003 or 2004. We finished around 4 hrs.
Re: You are only as good as your last marathon, marathon list!
Lance was cheating, I don't understand the equivocation. You believe he's done so much good that that outweighs the PED use? Fine, I can buy that. But doesn't make him less of a cheater.
