Is there any benefit for 'application saturation' of all or a lot of the charities?Nick Morris wrote:ounce wrote:Julie wrote:Nick Morris wrote:Julie wrote:I don't understand why a charity wouldn't want someone to raise funds for them. Am I missing something?
I think that it comes down to only having so many spots and they want to get the most lucrative donors in to get the most fund raising.
OK, yeah I had thought that after I asked. Well, I wish you the best in getting a good spot with a charity you really care about. There are so many good organizations out there.
Do the applications ask how much you can raise?
Yes, they ask what your fundraising goal is. I actually had to submit a detailed plan stating exactly how I plan on raising the funds...to the dollar.

Re: "No Pressure"
Yes they ask how much you can raise. But the detail depends on the charity. Trevor offered $6500 last year to give you a basis. And yes, the more applications you submit the better your chances, but if I recall some or all of the charities require an application fee, so it can cost you if you apply to too many.ounce wrote:Is there any benefit for 'application saturation' of all or a lot of the charities?Nick Morris wrote:ounce wrote:Julie wrote:Nick Morris wrote:Julie wrote:I don't understand why a charity wouldn't want someone to raise funds for them. Continuing to take the week off from running. My legs feel great, but I figure they deserve the time off. The one blemish from the run on Sunday, is that my right big toe toenail is now black. Looks like I'll have that reminder for the next 6 months or so

A bit late checking in Nick. Those slower runs are sometimes more difficult than running at your more normal pace. It was nice of you to run with Pete.
Did Jenny run with you and Pete? Are Pete and/or Jenny running in Boston? I don't remember their ages and times in Hamilton last fall but I thought they were closer to my age than yours...

Yes Jenny ran the race, too, and very well I might add. She ran another BQ with a time of 3:56:XX.
Both Pete and Jenny are qualified and accepted into Boston. So, they will be there

Re: "No Pressure"
Shoot!! Just got another rejection letter from a Boston charity. That is strike two. I have two other charities that I am waiting to hear back from. Does it hurt to apply to a couple others??

I didn't think that getting into a charity is harder than getting into the race...

I'd carpet bomb the charities, if the form is pretty uniform.

I'd look into another few charities, too. Wow, who knew it was so difficult to get into charity fundraising?

Re: "No Pressure"
Wouldn't you think that anyone willing to raise money for a charity who also ran a qualifying time would get some sort of preferential treatment?!!
Hope that acceptance letter arrives soon!

Re: "No Pressure"
I was itching to run this weekend, so I headed out yesterday for an easy 3.5 miles with the little lady. The weather was great, and even though I only went a few miles, it was just nice to be running. I was impressed that the little lady was able to maintain a 9 minute pace for the entire run. Being an ex-sprinter, I am sure she finds it hard to build up endurance. She's coming along nicely, though.

I wonder if there IS preferential treatment for the BQ people? Like maybe some non-BQ people have to pony up more money. Or maybe BAA requires a certain number of the charity bibs to go to BQ people.

I dunno...I applied for another charity spot yesterday and used that as one of my reason for running. Let's see if that works...

I went to the gym on Monday for some weight training. Then I got in an easy 4 miles. I will lift again this afternoon and try to get in a few more miles.

Re: "No Pressure"
I got my third charity rejection yesterday. This time I received a phone call instead of an email. A more personal rejection That leaves only one remaining from the original four that I applied to. I also submitted an application for a fifth charity yesterday. I will look to do a couple more, but there aren't a lot of others to choose from. Hoping that Charity #4 notifies me with good news soon

Maybe offer the charity a 'signing bonus' for picking you? $1,000 now and $5,000 later?

If you submit more applications, maybe call yourself Nick Morris III, it will make you sound richer.

Re: "No Pressure"
An easy 4+ miles (4.41) last evening. I had to take advantage of the great running weather before the cold settles back in. Yesterday's high was 66 and it was around 60 when I went out for my run. Right now I am easing my way back into running after giving my legs a week off. I plan on running on Saturday and Sunday this weekend. Stretching out my longest run to 8 miles or so.
