Re: 12 more months
Don't get too excited, our lows are single digits tonight. It's Nebraska...just a little taste of springtime to keep us going.

Re: 12 more months
Well, I made it through my training plan so far this week but tonight I made the mistake of running on a poorly lit side street and some dry pavement tripped me. I scraped my knees and hands pretty badly. Of course it was in the 40s so I had no gloves on and was wearing shorts so that made it worse. I hope I can make it for my 11 miler tomorrow but I"m going to be sore. I almost stopped and called a friend for a ride home but figured I better tough it out. For all the worrying I do about ice and snow my worst spills have been on dry roads.

11 miler with ripped up hands and knees is done. Resting tomorrow, so ready for that.

Geez. You sound like me. Tricky conditions? No problem. Perfectly flat? Danger!
I'm glad you didn't to any worse damage than chewing up your skin. That 11-miler couldn't have been very comfortable, but good for you in getting it done. Bet you looked pretty hardcore out there.

Re: 12 more months
Sorry to hear about your spill. I agree, it's easy to take dry roads for granted and not worry about tripping as I've had a few nasty spills on dry ground from not paying attention. I hope your day of rest now helps heal. Put some antibiotic on your sores to heal maybe.

Re: 12 more months
Definitely putting antibiotic cream on the open skin and covered them up. I have heard way too much about staph infections and whatever else likes open wounds.
rest day and perfect timing with 40 mph winds. High of 52, low -17 windchill. No place like Nebraska

Sorry about the fall Julie. At least you didn't come out of it with a fracture or anything. Great job running the next day.

Re: 12 more months
You definitely don't want a staph infection - been there, done that. Good work getting back out there the next day and keep up the excellent work.
Re: 12 more months
Thanks Alex, it's great how fast the body heals, too.
Michele -thanks! I had a staph infection a few mos ago, not fun but thankful it cleared up.
Yesterday my sweet boys turned 6 mos so it's time for another photo:
Their 6 mo check up went well, both gaining well. They don't do everything 6 mo old would but they're 5 mos adjusted and then get appts with a developmental ped. at the hospital at 6 adjusted. They've been really healthy so we're thankful for that of course.

They are so beautiful and they look wonderfully healthy! Keep up the good work, Mom.
Re: 12 more months
Oh, boy -- what a pair! Thanks for the fresh photo. I'm thinking you're going to have your hands full (as if you don't now) once they get up on two feet.
Hope you're healing up well.

Re: 12 more months
Thanks Michele, Mark and Jerry.
Well, I took a break because last weekend I was terribly terribly ill in bed and missed my long run - my first run I've missed this training cycle. Tuesday I ran again and had not really the best week this last week. I did run nearly 10 miles today at least, windchill -1 and snowing but was good to get outside after we had a big snow storm earlier last week. After Thurs it looks like it should warm up and I'm eager to get out and off the treadmill. When is spring????

Re: 12 more months
In the last month my training has been so-so. Getting out there 5 days week, xt one except for the few days I took off after hurting my hip. My long runs have all been disappointing, though, and I know they're very important. One week I had GI issues and just ran 12 , the next my hip starting hurting so badly my husband had to pick me up, the next weekend I did 7 and today I ran 9 and probably could have gone further but my babies were waking up so I told my husband I'd just be done plus I didn't want to make my hip worse.
Spring is making an appearance today - beautiful upper 60s after last weekend it was -11 or something. The trail was packed! Trying to get some training on the trail that my 50K is on, if I can still pull the race off. It's 7.5 mos away, though so I don't want to give up yet. This training marathon training is going pretty awful, though. It's just base building but I know it's important, too.

I know how discouraging it can get when runs don't go well but it's good to see you're still out there giving it your best effort. Don't push things to hard...you'll get there.
Take care of that hip...and that lovely family!

Re: 12 more months
Thanks Nancy!
I hoped to join my 530 am running group again but Josiah decided if Mommy was up he needed to be, too so I left him with my husband last Tues a.m. and when I got back he had both the babies up. Apparently Josiah's cries woke up Noah. I spent the next 2 hrs after my run trying to get them back to sleep and it didn't work so overall just a cruddy day but at least I got my 6 miles in. Sadly, I have to admit I can't do morning runs yet. I will try again when it gets too hot out to go in the evening.
I ran 5 days last week, yesterday I ran my long run of 12 miles which was my goal. I felt a little tight and a tad sore in my left knee and hip the last few miles but no deep pain and I'm mostly satisfied with how it went. I'll try for 14 next wkend.
other than that, just plugging away. The babies keep growing. They'll be 8 mos next week! I'll update pics soon.

Hips of death, pfft! Carrying those two bruisers are going to give you arms of steel.
And their cuteness is exceeded only by the mischievous gleam in their eyes. Good luck!

Re: 12 more months
Thanks Michele and Mark!
Noah gets from room to room by rolling now and Josiah just started very slow crawling today. I'm in trouble!
Pretty average week with 6 milers weekdays and then I had a good 14 miler without hip pain yesterday and a good 6 with a friend today. I'm glad to get my long runs a little bit longer and hopefully have a strong base by Memorial Day when my 50K training plan is supposed to start.

Great job Julie getting that 14 done. You should be in prime shape when you start the plan. Just listen to your body.

Re: 12 more months
Oh no - they are moving on their own! No worries now about getting in the mileage or losing a few more pounds - they will help you accomplish that quickly!
Re: 12 more months
Thanks Steve, Alex, Nancy and Michele!
Last weekend I didn't have the time to run as long as I wanted and it was hot so I backed off to 11 miles but today I had a good 15 mile run. Perfect weather, too, 50s, not too windy, slightly cloudy and 5 of the miles was with a good friend. Otherwise things are going pretty well. I didn't feel injured during today's run. I taped my left knee before heading out because it was a little sore, just trying to be careful. 50K training starts right after Memorial Day so I would love to get some good 18s or even a 20 before then. The babies are doing well without me while I run now that they can fill up on some solids. I hope to start sleeping more this summer or fall and I think that will help my running to go better, overall I am just very tired.
