Re: Laugh at the Rules
Great news all around Peg. You've had a rough time of it lately, and I'm so glad that both the mole and the nodule turned out to be false alarms. Time for a beer (or two or three), or whatever your beverage of choice may be!

So glad to hear that, Peg! And glad you're getting some good running in.
What's on the calendar now for races?

Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving--gonna shoot for a course PR--it's a five mile hilly race. Santa Shuffle in December, also 5 miles. That's about it right now. How about you?
And yes, getting some good runs in!
4 easy miles last night. Driving to Denver after work tonight, so rest day.
Re: Laugh at the Rules
No races for me, just running and trying to keep whatever base I can. January is usually a pretty tough month for me.
I hope the turkey trot goes great! I've never done one but they sound like a fun way to start Thanksgiving day.

Re: Laugh at the Rules
It was a gorgeous day in Denver yesterday! About 60 degrees. Glad I threw some shorts in my bag! I did 4 miles. Going out this morning and then we are shopping all day.
Re: Laugh at the Rules
5 miles yesterday about 10:30 average. HILLY! The one going up Piccadilly between Hampden and Quincy was long! Sunny and beautiful again! We shopped but I didn't accomplish a lot. At least Cheryl got a few things done! Bummed I didn't have time to meet up with Chas. Thursday night would have been the easiest but I was so tired I went to bed super early.
Re: Laugh at the Rules
I am so glad that your tests came out clean Peg.
Also happy to see that your running seems to be going well too. Are the races you mentioned in GI or are they other places closeby?

Re: Laugh at the Rules
hey Jon, Thanks!
Turkey Trot is in Kearney. The Santa one is in Grand Island.
Did almost 5 miles last night. It was windy so Jim picked me up and while I wanted to go 5, it was getting dark and so I quit when he got to me. I took Kramer and he enjoyed getting out too.

Re: Laugh at the Rules
3 miles last night. A strange snow storm started just 15 minutes before I went out--wind and wet snow. It quit snowing and the clouds were disappearing by the time I finished. It surprised me! I didn't have much time so I ran around the school to the track and did an impromptu speed workout. 3/4 mi warmup, 4x400 with 400+ recovery. I say 400+ because I ran the recovery intervals on the outside lanes!
It was fun to see my footprints in the snow, but by the time I was done, the snow had melted!

Re: Laugh at the Rules
Ughhh. Just catching up with you, Peg - you've been through a lot but I'm so glad for you that things went OK. Enjoyed the marathon pics. It is crazy that you went running in the snow - that seems so foreign to me now that I'm living in the south! Looks like running is going well and you have a couple of fun races coming up - didn't take you long to storm back after the marathon! Congrats on the 15K PR too!Peg Coover wrote:All good news! Re: Laugh at the Rules
Thanks so much John!
Tonight I did 5 miles. Man, it gets dark so early....Two of the miles were pretty fast at 9:18. I'm hoping to go long on Saturday or Sunday. maybe 9.
Gotta start the Thanksgiving grocery list! I bought the turkey last night! Having a total of 14 plus two toddlers!

In my family the two toddlers would be known as "The Entertainment" - Enjoy!

Re: Laugh at the Rules
Michael, I am sure the little boys will certainly be entertaining. And of course, my daughter's new puppy Dexter, a great dane!
Thanks Dave! Looking to run a course PR, but I don't know....sometimes it would be fun to just "fun run" a race too. Except I don't care to talk when I run, even on training runs. My two best friends and my daughter are all running it too. 44:00 was my time last year.
I ran 5 miles yesterday. It was cold and windy. When I woke up it was 34 degrees. By the time I ran (it was drizzling and I did some cleaning first so I waited) it was 25! Oh well, got it done!
Going for 8 today. It's still cold but no wind.

Re: Laugh at the Rules
Wow, I haven't posted for 2 weeks! I have been around reading though!
I've kept a pretty steady 25 miles per week. If I keep it up through December I will come close to a yearly high...not sure if I can beat last year at this point but I will be happy to be close! Currently I am at 1202 and last year I hit 1327. Even though I had more miles per month during marathon training, I had a minor injury in February that had me off the roads and then the surgery in October forced some days off too. Oh well, happy to be running and healthy!
Yesterday I ran 6 in the snow! By the last mile it was coming down pretty hard and the wind had picked up! It was kind of fun! But my legs are a little sore today--can tell the footing was different.

Re: Laugh at the Rules
Running in the snow just does not sound like fun to me. 1200+ is nothing to shake a stick at - you've had a good year and cheers to being happy and healthy!!!!!!

Re: Laugh at the Rules
I love running in the snow which is the one thing I look forward to when I get back to that winter climate next year. I don't love driving or moving the stuff, but running in it can be very zen. Good work this year, Peg.
Re: Laugh at the Rules
Sunday's run was on the snowpacked road--should have worn my yaktrax but I don't like to run long in them. I did 7, very slow! It was hard work too!
Tuesay I ran on the indoor track at the Y. It's 13 laps for a mile. And you can't change directions--they alternate directions on different days of the week. Preferably I would have altered every mile. Oh well! 5 miles done!

Re: Laugh at the Rules
Wednesday run was awesome! It was about 36, but with no wind it was great, even though the sun went down quickly and it cooled quite a bit. I went 7 instead of 5 because it was so nice and felt so great! Exactly 10 mpm pace too. The road wasn't too bad--had to watch out in a few spots, especially when the temps got down and the wet spots were freezing.
Re: Laugh at the Rules
Decembrrrr Dash 5 mile on Saturday. Snowpacked streets=hard work! I'm glad I wore the Yaktrax. 47:40 was my time, but it was good enough for first in the 40-49 group. I ran an extra mile with my friend, who took it super slow so as not to slip. I couldn't believe I lapped her! At least she didn't have to come in alone. The course was 5 times around an area in downtown. We wore Santa hats and shorts and Christmas socks. It was fun.
Sunday I ran 4--my legs were super tired!

Re: Laugh at the Rules
6 miles Monday evening--brrrr! A lot of moisture in the air.
7 miles Wednesday evening--perfect weather and most of the snow finally gone! Good run.
