Great seeing you Julie!
I got a course PR of 2:04:47! I felt pretty good--it was humid though!

Awesome job with the course PR, especially in humid conditions, Peg!Peg Coover wrote:Great seeing you Julie!

Nice job, Peg! It was a bit sticky after the storms passed through and the sun came out. Would have been a lot worse if we would have run Saturday though.
Glad you had a PR kind of day!

Re: Laugh at the Rules
Thanks Michele, ounce, and Kathy!
This week I have been unmotivated to run! Last week of school, so there were a few parties to attend. I also did yard work two evenings. Today, I think I am just going to be lazy and not run. It's windy--that hot icky dry wind that blows the dirt from the fields and wilts the plants.
It was our last day of school yesterday. I am not going back to that school next year and in fact, I'm not going to be teaching high school next year at all...after 21 years I never thought i would say that! I got a job as a Science Coach through UNL. I will be working on developing inquiry based science lessons, providing training and support to teachers who implement them, evaluating the lessons, and monitoring the student learning. I will have about 12 teachers from various rural schools in Nebraska with whom I work. We will "meet" via skype so I don't have to relocate to Lincoln. I will have to be on campus one day a week to meet with the other members of the team. It's an exciting opportunity and I hope to impact kids still--just indirectly!
I will be working one more day at my school, providing training to teachers on Monday on how to use the online course management system that I used this past year (Moodle). Only 3 or 4 of us used it, and the rest of the staff needs to get on board with it. So when I resigned I told them I would help train teachers. Then Tuesday I have a meeting on skype with one of the UNL professors to go over some language on a survey that our teachers will be completing. I have to work 3 weeks in June with the new job, training for me one week and then we work with the teachers for 2 weeks. Then I start for real in September!

Re: Laugh at the Rules
Very cool, Peg. I'm bidding a water system for a lab at UNL - does that count ? Good luck with the new position - sounds intriguing.
Re: Laugh at the Rules
Finally a run! I did about 5 miles, which was broken up with a tour of the Farmers Market set up in town. A few people had some stuff--mostly lettuce and other greens, plants, and honey. But I hope that it grows throughout the summer!
Warm again this morning but not so windy! I hope we get some rain tonight--it's been a dry spell.

Re: Laugh at the Rules
Thanks Kathy, Michael and Michele!
I did better running this week. 3, 4.5, 6 so far.
Micki and E came last night--he loves that Strider bike! He is so fast on it already after just one month, and he's only two!

Re: Laugh at the Rules
Good running since last post. I ran 3.5 Sat, 3 Sunday, 8 Monday, 4 Tuesday, and 3 today.
I will take tomorrow off--we head to Denver for a quick trip.
I posted in the Running Forum about trying to get a 10K PR in July. We shall see....
Here is a picture of Jimpa and E on the bikes. E has a Strider bike--loves it!

Re: Laugh at the Rules
That is so cute! I've seen the Strider bikes but we don't have one for J. I am also glad to see they both have helmets on! (personally very pro-helmet especially after cracking mine in a bike crash).

Re: Laugh at the Rules
Funny, somehow that is not what I though Nebraska would look like - lol! I'm with Julie on the helmets and good habits start early. I, too, broke my helmet in a fall, and a friend's niece's friend was killed in a freak fall from her bike while riding to/from class at Un of Oregon a couple of years ago. No, she was not wearing a helmet, nor was she riding fast.

Nothing too exciting to post on running, except 30 miles last week.

Re: Laugh at the Rules
Like everyone else, I've been struggling in this heat this summer. I'm getting runs in, but the races I have done haven't been pretty. I feel pretty good leading up to the day of the race, then haven't been able to execute.
I have also done a lot of traveling: spent 3 weeks in Lincoln with new job, where they fed us breakfast and lunch and then I ate out every night. I also manage to gain about 4 pounds in June because of that and a trip to San Diego. I still got all my runs in, including speed work and longer runs, but.....
So now I'm home for almost 4 weeks straight finally, and I have a half marathon Sept. 1. I am in week 8 of HH Intermediate plan for that race. Then Oct 13-14 I'm doing a double half mary...a new event near Lincoln. I would advice on how to prepare for that! I've done 6 fulls, but since I'm not doing one this year, this sounded fun and do-able. I'm also tempted to do the OMaha half Sept. 23.
So, other than trying to keep the garden alive and starting to can some pickles, that has been my summer so far!

Re: Laugh at the Rules
Sounds like a very full summer and that is one cute kid!
On the Oct. 13-14 races, I would just take a week or two of slow running after the Sept. 1st race and then just train like you are gearing back up for another race but don't worry about getting your long runs back to 13, 10-11 will be fine. Then race the first one and just run easy on the second one. My FIL is doing double 1/2 marys in Dec.

Re: Laugh at the Rules
I had miserable long run today...well, some of it was good....But I stopped after 7 to change clothes--I could have wrung a gallon of sweat out of them. Changed shoes and socks too, and cooled down, then went back out for 3. Then walked 1.5 more to go to the post office and convenience store for chocolate milk.
The run started bad when i got to the golf course where I get water...and they hadn't replenished the cooler yet....(late for them) so I had to get a drink from the faucet in the restroom and I much prefer ice cold water. I think I had a mental let down somewhere in there and walked every five minutes during miles 5-7. Then I took a long time to cool off before finishing my run with 3 more. But then I was back at a pretty good pace and feeling great for miles 8 and 9. Mile 10 I started to heat up again so I walked a little again.
I shouldn't whine--everyone is in the same boat as I!
I was going to go to the Y but I ended up having to do some pickles instead. Hopefully I will get in and swim tomorrow and got to Body Pump Thursday.

Re: Laugh at the Rules
I've been lurking around here, occasionally posting, but not on my blog! I think it's time for a new one. I signed up for the Lincoln Full Marathon! I've never done the whole thing, just the half 6 years in a row. Nebraska weather in May can be icky! It can be windy, cold, or hot. But usually windy! Training starts the week of December 31 so look for a new blog to go with it!

Re: Laugh at the Rules
Thanks Dot!
It snowed a tiny bit, but made for a Christmas-y run this morning. I wanted to get to 28 miles this week, so I would have to run at least 5.5....then I thought, 30 would be nice....then I thought, it would be good to hit 10 today if things feel good! And they did feel good, so I ran 10 miles in 1:46. Nice and easy. Felt great! So I hit 32.5 miles for the week.
Relaxing with some hot chocolate now!

Re: Laugh at the Rules
I went to BodyPump today. It was good! Since starting back, I have made it 3x per week! (two weeks)
Planning to run very easy tomorrow and sorta easy Tuesday, with Wednesday off because it's my day to work in Lincoln.
