Best/Favorite Sports Memorabilia
I used to own a sport memorabilia business so I had many unique and worthy memorabilia pieces. From baseball to hockey to boxing to NASCAR.
What do you have or once had that is your most precious sports memorabilia.
Below are just some of the items I had that I remember being a bit on the special side.
All Mickey Mantle and Hank Aaron cards
Michale Jordan (rookie cards and many)
Thrilla in Manilla Original Poster signed by both (sold that about 5 years ago)
Joe Dimaggio signed baseball (dad got it when he met with him for business)
Nola Ryan (rookie cards)
Gretzky (Rookie cards)
Larry Bird (rookie cards)
I sold my collection/business many years ago for pennies on the $. Looking back it would have been nice to have saved them as my DAD was a big part of the business with me and those all the items I had sold was part of us in one way or the other.

Re: Best/Favorite Sports Memorabilia
Not sure that my Marine Corps Marathon info packet front page signed by the 1987-1988 Boston Celtics counts for much. Or my 2002 Peachtree number signed by Khalid Khannouchi.
Re: Best/Favorite Sports Memorabilia
I once shook Suzy Favor's hand after a race about 10 years ago. Does that count? Still haven't washed my hand since. (kidding)
I had a signed baseball from the '78 Red Sox team. I still have a Johnny Pesky signed baseball.

Re: Best/Favorite Sports Memorabilia
2 things
I have Honolulu Marathon Clinic T-shirt signed by Frank Shorter
I have a mini LA Lakers ball signed by most of the 1986-1987 team - Worthy, Majic, B Scott, Cooper, Rambis, Pat Riley - the only starter that didn't sign it was Kareem - he was sort of a prick.

I have a Johnny Pesky and Yaz signed program.
Re: Best/Favorite Sports Memorabilia
I have a bunch of memoriabilia. Here are a couple of interesting ones:
- 1980 US Hockey Olympic Team signed photo with every player and Herb Brooks
- 3 seats from the old Montreal Forum. One is signed by Maurice "Rocket" Richard
- Most recently my daughter, the Bowdoin graduate, got a personally signed 2011 Boston Marathon Hat from Joanie (also a Bowdoin grad) saying something like: "Best wishes Chelsea and good health in your skating, golfing and running, Joan Benoit Samuelson" - pretty cool eh? Nice lady.
Since they both ran 2011 BM (and it might be JBS last one) I thought that was true "memory - abilia".

Natalie's is the winner so far! I had a baseball signed by Babe Ruth in 1926. It had been passed down to me through a couple of generations. I sold it when I was knee deep in school debt but I regret it now.

Re: Best/Favorite Sports Memorabilia
nothing that exciting for me. My sis has a baseball Richie Ashburn signed but he's from the town my parents live in (I guess my home town but I moved so much I don't really feel that attached to any place).

Re: Best/Favorite Sports Memorabilia
My husband spends many hours lovingly arranging and adding to his extensive collection. His favorites are probably the ticket stubs from the events he's attended, and, of course, he's a die-hard Cincinnati Reds fan. When stadiums are torn down, it's time to redecorate our house with the castoffs... stadium seats, flags that fly above the stadium (those things are as big as large shower curtains if you are contemplating buying one), front-office art. He's been a subscriber to SI since he was a little kid, and he has the issues he enjoys cataloged in some kind of Scott Wolf System. A few years ago, he loaned a bunch of his stuff to the Reds Hall of Fame Museum.

We used to have a Great Dane that loved baseballs. Scott used to throw her old baseballs when they played fetch. When he went to work, she played without him. Her favorites were the 1956 Reds team (see the program above), the Atlanta Braves first team with Hank Aaron, and the Catfish Hunter ball. One was salvaged, two destroyed. Poor Tazmania... loved that big dog, but she couldn't tell the difference between an old plaything and an autographed baseball.

Re: Best/Favorite Sports Memorabilia
When I proposed to Britt 2 years ago, my friend that works for the Cubs had Ryan Theriot (her favorite player), autograph a ball and write, "Congrats on your engagement!"
Later that night, we met friends out to celebrate. Three of her girlfriends walked up and said, "Let me see it!" She showed them the baseball, not her ring, as they looked on extremely confused. I was so proud.

Re: Best/Favorite Sports Memorabilia
I have an autographed Mickey Mantle and Hank Aaron photograph(together) and John Elway signed a photograph and napkin for me. I have an Evil Knievel and Rosey Grier autograph.
Of course, I also ran out of baseballs and needed one. I took my autographed 1974 Orioles baseball and played with it in the rain. Easy come, easy go I guess.
