Howl at the Moon 8-hour Ultra

I feel like I should declare my goal for tomorrow since I don't have a blog anymore. Conditions for August appear to be about as good as you can get, so I am shooting for 40+ which should put me in the top 5 of my AG and top 10% overall. Tomorrow will be my first timed ultra where I am mentally prepared to go the full time...in this case 8 hours. I think I can go out at a 10:00 pace and hold it through the 20-25 distance, and then if I can keep it under 12:00-13:00 the rest of the way I will go over 40.

Jeff, whatever happened with this race? How'd it go? I'm thinking about doing it this year.

I did it last year and so did Dot.
I really enjoyed it - relaxed atmosphere - nice aid stations - one at the start and one half way around.
Some folks are out to get a zillion miles in, while others stop after a predetermined number of laps.
I got in 30.11 miles - would have been more, but it was freaking hot!
Fun and different type of event.

I plan on going and the sign up starts on 4/22.
If I am there, my wife and I will have our open air awning thingie up and you could keep your stuff there like Dot and her friend did last year. We might tent camp there the night before this time.

Charles, I plan to be there again this year as well. Are Kathy and I invited to hang with you two again? I plan on doing 2 extra loops this year for Chicago training.

cool, thanks for the info (and invite) Charles! If this works out on my calendar, it's a def. possibility. Depending upon the weather and other race plans, I may be one of the crazies going for a zillion miles

I may sign up again this year, but don't plan on training to run a zillion miles. At the least I will show up and cheer everyone else on as this is a great event and only about 45 minutes from my home.

Jeff: Last time I only did 5 laps because I was 'half' training. I plan on 7 loops this year which in the scheme of what goes on there is nothing! Still a good time and a chance to cheer Charles on to greatness!

Everyone who is interested, put 4/22 on your calendar; that is the day registration opens and it will fill fast.
