I did not say that. I said, it is a "game time decision". I am not sure. I have until Friday to sign up. Smile

I was just asking if you were going to, didn't say you did but I have heard this line a few times before....say like the last 5-6. What day and time is the race again?

Bummer, I thought it was on Sunday. I was thinking about running it, I may run a free 5k in bear creek park on Sunday instead.

Clawing My Way Back - Page 36 Empty Stepping Up

Post  Michael Mitchell Wed Aug 22, 2012 10:14 am

Well, I am happy. For now, happy. I ran a 28:23 for 3 miles yesterday morning. Not bad. The last mile was at 7:48 pace. I was thinking, ok, things are starting to look up. That brings me to yesterday. The run started at 5:05 pm. Although it was dry outside, very humid inside. The first 2.25 miles were at a 7:36 pace and the last 5.75 were at a...yes, 7:30 pace. Woo Hoo. Now, everything was ok until the last 2 minutes when my soleus started to ache a bit. Otherwise, 52:45 for 7 miles. Fastest I have run in 5 and 1/2 weeks. Today, I am thinking either A) 7:30 pace the whole way or B) 7:36 pace for two miles and then 7:30 pace the rest of the way. Game time decision. I have 15 miles this week.

Clawing My Way Back - Page 36 Empty Cant Stop The Achy Feeling

Post  Michael Mitchell Wed Aug 22, 2012 8:56 pm

I ran a 53:12 for 7 miles, but I am achy. Very achy. Soleus needs to be stretched, ART and sticked tonight. Otherwise, it was good. I mean it was ok. Not sure on Saturday. Do I trust my soleus to the concrete? Again, it is not looking good. Just saying. I will know more tomorrow and Friday. I just got back to running 7:30 paced runs. I do not want to give it up to a race that was a striding race anyway. I have 22 miles this week.

Joel- I am not sure. Just not sure. My best friend kept texting me over and over "Patience".

Post  Michael Mitchell Thu Aug 23, 2012 10:13 am

Who knows? I am not sure. It is not as achy as it was last night, but it is there. I did ART on it, sticked and am using a portable massager ( It is a cool device. I will ask my wife where she got it. It is like a soap dish with nodules on it). I did run 20 minutes this morning and it was ok. Not great, but ok. I have a departmental meeting to attend tonight after my 4 pm run. Again, not sure. So much doubt here. I have 24 miles this week.

Joel-Yeah, we will see. It is great to be where I am after all my troubles.

Clawing My Way Back - Page 36 Empty Really Reaching to Catch Up

Post  Michael Mitchell Wed Aug 29, 2012 9:36 am

Wow. It has been awhile. Let me say that my luck was not good last week. Thursday, because of a departmental meeting ( not mine, my wife's), I could not run. Friday, because of a librarian meeting that lasted forever and another meeting, I could not run. ( I could not make this up...LOL). Saturday, I was pumped to run. I really was. Then the in-laws decide, "It is Hunger Games time". Now the movie is amazing, do not get me wrong. They called at 12 noon to get it going. They did not get to the house until 2:30. The movie is 2 hours and 20 minutes. Then we decide to have dinner over at the house ( that is ok, they are family..LOL). Hence, no run. Yeah, 25 miles last week. Well, that brings me to Sunday. I decide, with all of the humidity and heat, I will run a slow pace and get it done. Nevermind the fact that I had spent three hours mowing ( the weedeater is not my friend). I ran a 56 for 8 miles, but it was torture. I mean torture. Then my gastroc started to really bother me. No, not the right one, the left one. I have not had problems with that one since 1997. Lovely. Took Monday off for it to calm down. Ran for 20 minutes in the morning. Felt good, just hot. LOL. Remember, on my morning runs, I start with a walk, then progress faster from a 12 minute pace to an 8 minute pace at the end. So, I get two miles, but most of it is faster. The afternoon run. It started with a lot of trepidation. I was worried about a myriad of things ( First, will my gastroc hold up. Second, will my soleus hold up. Third, will my fitness hold up. LOL). It was ok. The gastroc and soleus, although weak, held up. 7:36 pace the whole way. 53:12 for the 7 miles. Cannot add anymore to that. I wanted to run this morning, but did not want to wake the wife. Will run in the 4 pm hour today. Again, same recipe. 7:36 pace for 7 miles, get my20-25 oz of fluid in with a GU. I have 16 miles this week. Will add, Friday will be funky. Why? Because of meetings, I have missed the last two. This Friday, I will run on an early lunchbreak while the wife is teaching and before my 1 pm meeting that will lead me to a 3 pm meeting. Fun. Smile

Yep. This is the one I am shooting for. Last year, the winner in my age group ran a 49:38. I ran a 46 flat yesterday. Humm. My plan is a firm 40-40:30. If I can break 40, woo hoo. My training should start second week of September. We shall see. I ran a 43:02 for the race two years ago. We shall see.

Clawing My Way Back - Page 36 Empty How Humid Is Too Humid?

Post  Michael Mitchell Thu Aug 30, 2012 9:23 am

Wow. Just wow. I do not know what to say. It was 80 inside. 69 percent humidity. Somehow, through some act of mercy, I survived. It was rough. 53:00 for 7 miles. The last two were at 7:30 pace. One telltale sign that things were rough. My sweat rag ( I go through two a run now...fun..LOL) was so soaked, that when I tried to get some of the water out, it poured out all over the treadmill. Man oh man. To rehydrate myself, I went through a full 32 oz Powerade. I so love Summer. Sigh. I tell you this, I look at this as heat training. That is all I can do. I swear if I dwell on it too long, I will drive myself mad. Well, today, meeting from 10 am to 1 pm. I am watching the 5000 at Zurich while doing paperwork and starting the run at 4 pm. I will get through this. LOL. I have been doing the 20-25 oz of fluid and Gu before the run and it has not failed me yet. Oh and one more note. Tomorrow will be a funky time to run. I am running at 11 am for I have a meeting from 9 am to 10 am and another on from 1 to 2:15 pm and another one from 3 to 4 pm. Lovely. I have 23 miles this week.

Post  Michael Mitchell Thu Aug 30, 2012 8:03 pm

I am officially tired of Summer. Every year I say this. Every year I mean it. It is usually this time when I am just sick of it all. The humidity. The heat. The dread. I am tired. I am pooped. I am just tired. Well, the run was ok. I was soaked, it was hot and it was humid. After the 2 mile mark, I ramped up to a 7:30 pace and strangely enough, I finished. I ran a 52:42 for 7 miles. I was going to stop at the 6 mile mark, but I trundled on. Tomorrow should be interesting. I have to run 7 miles at 11 am. I just hope my legs are recovered enough for it. We shall see. I have 30 miles this week.

I sort of missed the tough weather this summer being both injured (from running) and in western NY state at 1900'. We had warm days in early July, but they cooled off quickly with highs only in the high 70s when I left. That is where I don't miss Georgia at all. Of course, it will snow like crazy this year because I am back Wink

Michele - You have one sick and twisted little mind. I can understand being injured but missing the "tough" weather, really? Hmmm...I would give this heat away in a heart beat!

Not great, but it is done. Again, tired. Again, pooped. 52:42 for 7 miles. First two miles, 7:36 pace and the last five at 7:30 pace. Slowly coming around. Gosh it is just humid outside. You step out, you breathe in 20 gallons of water. Oh well. More meetings. Fun times. 37 miles this week.

I'm catching up on your training, Michael, and I feel like I just got off a roller coaster! At least the highs are getting higher. Smile

I am hoping that the weather turns and you end up with a pleasant autumn and wonderfully mild winter. Though, after this summer, I think you'd be game for a blizzard.

When does the summer swelter usually break where you live?
