Euro 2012
Figured I would start an update thread we can keep going through the finals.
Very surprised with how the Netherlands played. Spain looks beatable at times too.
I'll go with Germany for the (sorta) upset to win it all this tournament.

The Netherlands have the worst defense I have ever seen for a Top 10 Country. They need to fire their coach. Whatever magic he had is long gone.

Re: Euro 2012
Can't call Holland a top 10 in the world team after they got shredded like that. I'm very curious to see how England plays tomorrow. With Rooney now back, they are dangerous. Spain and Germany have not looked so good that they can't be beat although I feel like they have been in 2nd gear only so far. I'll go with Portgual as my shocker to win it because when Christiano R starts rolling, I don't think he can be stopped.

Re: Euro 2012
Dutch is piece of .....
I rooted for them and predicted everything right except the single footed Robben couldn't finish. I was wondering why he couldn't start regularly in Chelsea and the transfer from Real Madrid to Munich was a big red flag, cause he couldn't fit in(?). I didn't know for sure. But the Champion League finally convinced me he is just not up for big moment.
It is just a shame a country that created so many excellent players and coaches just can't find a good coach for its national team.

Re: Euro 2012
As for who wins it all, hard to bet against Spain. As I watch EPL, I hate to see Torres unable to get his confidence back for the coming season. Gomez was not in form last world cup. Now he is, Germany is scary.
But one can't argue the best case for fans is the super mario wins it all.
Heehee, Italians cooked Germans.

Re: Euro 2012
Wasn't Germany scary in 2004 when they were upset in the group stage and Greece won the whole thing? I guess they'd probably have to find another Charisteas to upset Germany and Gomez this year, however.
Speaking of Gomez, given his dual citzienship, it's interesting that he chose the German squad over the Spanish.

Don't remember much about 2004 cause I was busy training for my first marathon.

Ronaldo scores!...again!
He's on fire right now. THAT guy is scary.
I am going to go ahead and say he locked up the Ballon d'Or with that performance.

Re: Euro 2012
There was a play earlier in the game where he just roasted a defender on a trap and turn and then fired it off the post. They look to be a bit of a one man show but the Portgual show is pretty fun to watch! On to the semis for them....

I am just amazed at this level one looks so static than another so many times.

I actually caught the Extra Time and PKs in a bar outside Fenway with Chris. He gave me the lowdown on everyone's playing background, arrest records, etc, which was fun.
Chris was rooting for England so naturally I rooted for Italy.

Re: Euro 2012
Why does everyone love Rooney? He is so g-damn slow. He looks fat to me, too.
Carroll looked like a basketball player out there catching the ball in his chest a few times.
Now that I understand this triangle stuff on offense, why do teams not work on it more? Short passes are much easier to complete than bombs and you make the other team run around all game(which also makes them miss their PK's, too).
It should be a great semifinals, although Germany gets two more days of rest.

Don't be a typical American, who always looks for speed and hard kick.
Diego, I didn't say this. My daughter's soccer coach, a former Penn State Olympic player did.
Here is Jerry's reply:
If you ever watch ManU game, you will notice instance difference when Rooney is on and off the pitch. He seldom loses the ball, while always can find some way to play forward or offense, if not necessarily forward. He played a significant role especially after Crisiano Ronaldo left.
Another reason is Rooney is the only star England has, thus special treated. I bet Yao Ming makes more money than Lebron James too.

I rooted for England, only because I watch EPL and have to love them.

Remember what happened when Ronaldo(Brazil) gained so much weight. The only chance he had to score goals was to cherry pick a long pass or score on a PK. What a waste of talent!! He had at least 3-4 more good years in him.
Rooney still needs to lose a few lbs. He lost many passes (along with Garrard, both Ashleys, etc.) Also, just look how quick Ronaldo(Portugal) and Gomez are to the ball.
Speaking of Chinese, what are Jerry's thoughts about Drogba's new team. Any chance they will be televised here?

I wouldn't worry about Rooney's weight cause I've seen Paul Gascoigne play.
Ronaldo(Brazil) was a different story. Every team builds around its best player. Brazil should build around Ronaldinho at world cup 2002, but Ronaldo and his pals, I heard, controled Brazil team.
Regardless Ronaldo did a shameful thing to his country and legacy.
Drogba? Love him.
Chinese soccer? I don't want to talk about it for over a decade now.

Rumor has it, Germany was so confident that they bet on bailing out Euro if they lost the game. Heehee.
