Boston Weather
I know that it is way too early to start obsessing (or is it?), but today on our run (with the ATC women and men), the consensus is that Boston will be warm - warmer than the latest warm year (04?) - so everyone need be prepared. What say you all???

That is about right.
If it is warmer than that...Might just be a "victory" lap.
If the weather allows, going for broke...

Re: Boston Weather
For once, the decision to run is out of my hands. I am running this thing even if it's 80 degrees. That said, it will be disappointing to need to scale back after months of training but iwarm weather marathons have happened so many times to me that I'll be ready for it. Since it starts at 10:30-11:00 AM, I assume it will warm up more than many marathons I am used to which start at 7:30 AM.

High 60s? FML. I'm walking it. Why did I move to a place where we have winter?! I would've been ready for mid-80s had I been training down south...

Re: Boston Weather
This thread is hilarious. And I will continue to enjoy following it.
That being said, I hope for great weather for Boston. (I just like following the angst.)

Re: Boston Weather
So, since last week's heat wave sparked discussions about a warm race, should we discuss the odds of a 2007-type Nor'easter given tomorrow's predicted snowfall?
As beautiful as it was up here last week, this week has been lousy. Windy, grey and cold.
According to WeatherSpark, historically at this time of year, only half of the difference between the overnight low and the high has been gained by 10AM, and the daily high isn't reached until 3 PM. Something to bear in mind when we get closer to having accurate weather predictions.
Historically, April 16th shows a 50% chance of the temp at 10 AM being between 44 and 53, and an 80% probablility of being between 42 and 59. Now, Chris, before you get all weird about the possibility of it being 59, your math god namesake would be quick to remind you that it is equally possible that it will be 42 as 59, and every point in between.
You can see the data here http://weatherspark.com/averages/29794/4/16/Boston-Massachusetts-United-States
My bigger concern is the wind. I ran from Hopkinton to Cleveland Circle last weekend into probably a 10 MPH "breeze" out of the Northeast. Absolutely the worst possible direction. And last night, a cold 10 MPH wind with 25 MPH gusts probably cost me a good 10 - 15 seconds per mile when I ran with it 3/4 to my back on the way out than 3/4 into it on the way home. An absolutely brutal wind off the water at the New Bedford Half added 20 seconds - and 2 BPM.
I'm waiting until race day to establish my goals and final pace strategy.

Re: Boston Weather
I'll take 59F as it felt downright cold this morning at that temperature!!! And VW, I'll take a nor'easter over 80s even with a wind

Rather than worry about something you can't control, you are better off to read Jerry's race report.

I found my Boston weather - unfortunately it was three weeks early and in Michigan. 12 mile run this past Thu was 55 degrees with a 10 mph westerly. Awesome.

Re: Boston Weather
All I know is if you SOBs get a ridiculous tailwind again I am going to be pissed.
OK, I kid, I kid...or do I?
I have a buddy, a wee bit faster than me, who ran Boston and Grandma's last year and got perfect weather, with a tailwind, for both. He went on to PR in both races and now I'm chasing him.
I know I should be happy for him but...

Re: Boston Weather
I get a kick out of all the weather threads before all marathons. Sure I would always love the idea weather to run in but there is nothing I or any of use can do about the weather so why stress over it. All that does is waste time and energy and only subtracts from the energy that should be invested in positive thoughts about training. And even if the weather is not idea I never look at it as wasted training come race day.
That is why I believe in the 100% effort on race day that way no matter what the weather is like or how I'm feeling if I give it 100% I always walk a way with a smile on my face! Don't get me wrong I have time goals but that is all they are goals you never know what may transpire on race therefore give it 100% and you just might surprise yourself with the outcome!
As for Boston if it is Hot this what a difference 6 years makes. The first time I ran this race in 2007 they came within a hour of canceling the race for the first time in its history do to power lines that were fallen across the course due to a little storm Boston was having that year!

No, Schuey! Don't discourage them from freaking out over the erratic weather of Boston in springtime. It's hugely entertaining for those of us watching from afar.

As of today, accuweather.com is putting it at a high of 59, low 50, rain. Not gonna lie, I wouldn't mind that too much.

Sure, you show up and we have good weather. I was dying in the heat Tuesday/Wednesday 80+, and wore gloves and a hat on Saturday and Sunday (low 40s); aka great race weather! Friday was spectacular!
