World Championships
The women's marathon is going to be starting in about 20min. (8am EST). Tonight will be the finals of the women's 10,000m. The men's 10,000m final is tomorrow night.
I'm also curious as to how Allyson Felix will do in her 200/400 double quest. The 400m heats start tonight.

Re: World Championships
I was going to start a similar thread - one we can comment in while Worlds is going on. Thanks Alex.
Re: World Championships
Slight correction though: the women's marathon gets underway at 8:00 pm est. Here's the full schedule of events in eastern time.

Re: World Championships
This is the meet where we lose Christian Taylor, Will Claye, and probably Tony McQuay for good. Bittersweet. Go Gators.

Help me out. The women's marathon field looks like a 'B' team. Who should I be watching. And will anyone break 2:32, assuming it's hot?

Re: World Championships
Thanks. I set the DVD for whatever I can catch on NBC s Universal Sports is not carried by DirectTV and I refuse to pay $15 for it on line. Wonder if it will stream for "free" any where?? Anyone know??
Re: World Championships
Universal has been free on Direct TV this month. Not sure if it still is or not. I was able to catch a couple of the Diamond League meets.

Wow, really? Never advertised here - but now I need to check again.

Ok, I guess Kiplagat is an 'A' lister for tonight's marathon.

Yeah, we have it through September!!!
Re: World Championships
Holy cow the Kenyans. Took the top 3 in the women's marathon and top 4 in the women's 10,000. What the heck happened to the Ethiopians?

...Wait, are you Australian? (If so, how did I not know this?!)
Re: World Championships
Hell of an effort in the 1500 (4:18.96) from Ashton Eaton in the decathlon to pull into 2nd in the last event and give the US a 1-2 finish. He needed 4.5 seconds over the guy who was in front of him and dropped the hammer with about 300m to go and won the 1500 and beat the guy by 5.2 seconds.

Re: World Championships
Action packed weekend!
- How about the Kenyan women?!?!?! Sweep is the 10k and marathon? Impressive.
- Flanagan and Goucher disappointed. From the post race interview, it sounds like Flanagan is moving full time to the marathon. And its hard to be critical of Kara coming off the injury. I trust she'll be ready for London.
- The mens 10k finish was incredible! I thought for sure Fareh had it when he pulled away with about 300m to go. What a ridiculous final surge by the Ethiopian.
- Admiral performance by Rupp. 7th place on a world stage is no joke, and he fought hard with the lead pack until the final 800m. He may never develop the ability to close a 10k in 53 seconds, but I hope he will be in the lead pack in London too.
- Bekele....done? I'll certainly never doubt the man, but it sucks to see him out of top shape for what, 2 years now.
- Usain Bolt: What else can be said? It will be interesting to see if the IAAF sticks with the one-and-done rule. That really was the worst case scenario for the new rule, when the sports biggest star doesn't get to race.

Re: World Championships
I think Farrah went just a little too early. If he had held for another 50 or so and then went I think he takes it.
It was a matter of time with the false start rule. The problem is they need something. There were people who had been purposely false starting to keep the quick starters at bay and it was getting ridiculous. I'm not sure what the proper fix is.

Re: World Championships
A false start gets you what, about 0.10 seconds at the most. Penalize the athlete that amount at the finish. Easy. No false start rules. If the athletes actually maintained their speed all the way to the finish, I'm not sure mathematically that this would work. Since all sprinters do slow down in the last 20 meters, I think it could be one answer.
I understand that the 0.10 false start time is based on the scientifically flawed idea that no human can react faster than 0.10 seconds. I really think they need to cut that back to 0.07 because I can react that fast on a simple test. For example, using a stop watch see how fast you can start and stop the watch. With practice, you should be able to go below 0.10. if you can go below 0.05, you should be able to catch a fly with chopsticks.
Also, I have never seen the nerve conduction velocity from the brain hearing the gun to the foot pushing off standardized for all ethnicities.

YES!! Jenny Barringer-Simpson took home the gold in the 1500m. She is awesome. She's so easy to root for too.

Re: World Championships
Well, I hope that you all got your fix as I sure did. Very proud of Matt Centrowitz and Bernard Lagat is such a great runner and person. Loved that Farrah got his win, but I sure would have loved to see Lagat take it (maybe if the Ethiopian hadn't bumped him?). Tough fall in the 4 x 100, but at least the women came through in the 4 x 100 and both teams stuck it in the 4 x 400.

Gold for Taylor, Bronze for Claye. I've said it many times before, but CT is one of the 5 greatest athletes in Gator history. That was before his world championship. We are really, really, really going to miss that guy.
