Re: Laugh at the Rules
Nice running Peg. I wouldn't worry about any weight gain. If it did it'll come off very quickly.

Re: Laugh at the Rules
Thanks Alex--I did gain a pound...eek.
4 mile run today. I don't know why but I ran the middle two miles pretty fast! Splits were 10:40, 9:50, 9:23, 10:29. It was super muggy again. Glad it was only 4.

Re: Laugh at the Rules
9 miles today with ave pace of 10:35. I was kind of wanting to do 10:45....but I had a couple faster miles in there.
It was 96% humidity when I left. I ran the golf course first so I could get water a couple times. Then I was really soaked so I headed home and with 2 left, I changed clothes and finished up dry and in town (shade). I had my watch stopped during the pit stop so technically I had slower pace. It was also foggy for most of the run, so the golf course was a safe place to be.
I just had to weigh myself after that sweat fest! Even though I had drank a lot during the run and before weighing I was down 2.5 pounds from yesterday, so that made me feel better!
I'm going to have a lazy day today, unless I decide to mow. I woke up really early for some reason so I think a nap sounds good.
Here are a couple pics from the weekend at my sisters:

Re: Laugh at the Rules
cute baby!
Don't worry about a pound. Water shifts back and forth, it's the overall trend that matters.
Nice running. Some day the humidity will drop.

Yes, sorry I didn't mention who was in the picture!!!
Thanks all! 4 miles tomorrow--It's still 80 out. I don't remember a summer when I couldn't open my bedroom window at night once in awhile. I haven't since May......sigh!
Re: Laugh at the Rules
4 slow miles today--over 90 % humidity again at 7:45 and sunny. I felt like I was running 9 mpm I was breathing so hard!
Kramer had fun--he found a potato chip bag with a few remaining chips that he carried for half the run! Silly dog!

Another great run in these conditions Peg. It must have been fun being on the water in that picture.

Re: Laugh at the Rules
Love the picture of the little guy! They just don't stay little very long!
Sounds like you kept up with what you had planned for the most part. By the end of the month usually the humidity will let up some. So hopefully another four or five weeks and then it should begin to slowly cool. Hopefully doing what we are doing in the heat will make us stronger for the fall season.

Re: Laugh at the Rules
Thanks Jim, Alex, and Jon. Yeah, for the most part--I didn't miss a run but just cut one short by 2 miles. I hit 36 miles for a step back week! Sounds funny, since the Novice 2 plan maxes out at 36 and I followed it for 2 of my marathons!
Today was a rest day, but I mowed and just picking up the hoses and stuff I was already dripping sweat everywhere!
9 days until I start back to school. I now have to begin to shuffle the long run back to the weekend. I had planned to do the 19 on Wed, then shift a little and do my 20 next week on Tues., then I start work on Wednesday. The following week I would just go back to following the days as scheduled. But.....I might have to be somewhere this Wednesday morning. So, I think I might do the 19 tomorrow and also do next week's long run on Tues...But for this week, I would be unable to do the 9 mile pace run the day before, since I rested today.
I know that is a rambling description, but I guess it will be okay. If I don't run long tomorrow, I may then shift the long run to the weekend. I just don't know if that is going to work either, because I will be busy on Saturday....Sigh. Good thing it is just week 10!!!

Re: Laugh at the Rules
Too Cute of a picture! Good times... It does sound funny to say 36 miles is a step-back week when to many people that would be a week of a lifetime! Playing the running schedule juggling game I see - you'll get it figured out . Sounds like you have had a good summer with some good training.

Enjoy your last week before school starts again!
I wish we could have our windows open once in awhile. I don't want to see our electric bill for as much as the a/c has been running!!

Re: Laugh at the Rules
Ended up being mentally ready last night to do the 19 today. I ate some pasta early, went to bed early, got up early....it wasn't as humid as it has been, but still got drenched. Somewhere around mile 10 I began to lose my mental readiness! I actually walked all of mile 14---into the wind. Yes, it was windy today! Overall pace still fit into the recommended 60-90 secs slower, so I guess I can live with it.
19 miles in about 3:45....pretty slow!
Then I went to babysit so Micki could go out to her school and work.
Then I canned 18 quarts of pickles!
I better go to bed now!

Thanks Natalie!
I'm hoping to get out for 9 or 10 today, but if it ends up 4 or 5, so be it! Legs feel good, calves are a little tight.

If I have doubt I think shorter distance this was each mile I add I feel I am that more accomplished.
Re: Laugh at the Rules
Great job getting the 19 done. Did anything specific happen at mile 10 that caused you to lose it mentally a bit?

Re: Laugh at the Rules
Alex, I don't know. I remember being really irritated at the train that was going by and braking with a huge squeaky noise. Then the next couple miles were into a decent breeze. Not sure. Just my lack of mental toughness!
As tough as it is do a sorta long pace run followed by a long run, it is just as, if not more, difficult to do a long run followed by a sorta long pace run!
Kenny, I took your advice and tried to look at the run as starting with a lower goal and whatever miles more was an accomplishment. I ended up doing a little over 8. The first was nice and easy, the next 3 at MP around 10:24 (desired race pace). The next two I slowed it down to 11:00, which is the closer to the pace of my best marathon. After that I just eased it in and walked some.
I wanted to do the 10 because I will have to miss a 4 miler this week due to shuffling. So if I did 10 yesterday, 10 friday, and 5 Saturday, my weekly miles would only be off by one. I could have finished 10, but it wouldn't have been pretty, and honestly I wasn't sure if cramming the miles in was really worth it. So I thought I should maybe be smart and take this week as it is, and really be ready for next week and hit ALL the miles on the biggest week of the plan, 50 miles with a 10/20.......
With that said, my plan is to do 10 tomorrow, 4 Saturday and rest Sunday. That puts me at 41 miles, 4 short. Then Monday will be a 10 mile run, with some at MP. 20 mile on Tuesday. Back to school and rest day Wednesday, then 5, 10, 5 for the rest of the week.

Re: Laugh at the Rules
nice 19 miler earlier this week. That's about how my 20 miler was in that I thought it was slow but what can you do? The humidity is still pretty high.
You're brave to do a 20 the day before school starts! Good for you!!

Re: Laugh at the Rules
Sounds like you're going to have a busy rest of the week and buildup before school. Good luck! Glad you have gotten in the runs as the weather is being slightly more cooperative. The mental games we deal sometimes are just as difficult or even more difficult than the physical stress we place on our bodies. Learning to deal with that aspect is an art form.
Keep up your paces and good luck in completing the training!
