Re: 2016 Boston Marathon tracking thread
Just texted with my brother a bit. Apparently the hills are hard - I had told him not to worry about them, oops - and it was very warm. He said he was shivering from the heat (? sounds like heat exhaustion/dehydration) before the halfway point. He's doing alright now, I think. Just a couple minutes off his PR on pretty limited training.
Forgot that his GF was running it, too. She's had some knee issues, but ran a 3:44. Slowed a bit from HM-30k but stabilized for the finish.

Great job tracking these folks, Ounce! Lots of sub-3s and one so close it hurt!
Cheers to everbody still out there.

At the 40K mark:
Miche1e - 3:42:06, 9:25 pace (faster -8 seconds over 35K mark)
edit: Projected finish of 3:54:18
Mike, yeah, I'd say he is negatively affected due to the heat. Hope he got some help.

At the 30K mark:
Kelli - 3:28:50, 12:25 pace (slower +40 seconds over 25K)
Steve Foster has probably pulled up lame. He was projected to cross the finish line at 2:08 ET or about an hour ago.

It's been an hour and 15 minutes, Kelli hasn't hit the 40K mat, yet.
I don't hold out any hope for Steve.

Thanks for the tracking Doug. I wasn't able to follow during the race but it was fun to come back in and get a blow by blow.
Nice races all!
Hope Kelli is OK...

I PM'd John on Facebook and he says that Kelli finished in 5:08:xx. He says she hooked up with a ~58 lady who finally qualified and they were doing a Galloway run/walk.

Re: 2016 Boston Marathon tracking thread
Thanks all for tracking. It was quite warm out there and I struggled to stay hydrated as it was also very dry. Stomach was not happy and was forced to make a code brown stop just after Heartbreak Hill. Kept thinking I could out run it, but nope. Stopped to grab a drink from my daughter around mile 24 and then just willed myself to the finish as the wheels fell off around Fenway and I went up on blocks. Not my worst and not my best and I was pleased for holding it all together in what felt very, very warm to someone coming out of a mild, but not warm winter. My 50th marathon is complete! I ran another sub-4, a BQ (for my old and new AG), and I'll be back. I was due an ok race and I got it.

Nice job, Michele and a big congrats on completing your 50th! You have no idea how badly I want to run that race next year. I'm rehabbing the knee and have my fingers crossed it will hold up.

Re: 2016 Boston Marathon tracking thread
I'm curious about whether you maintained your fat-adapted state prior to the marathon? If so, how do you think it helped or hurt during the race?Michele \"1L" Keane wrote:Thanks all for tracking. Re: 2016 Boston Marathon tracking thread
I did Doug - and I think I ran out of fuel. I also think my bathroom issue was due to taking in gels like I normally do. Always a work in progress!!ounce wrote:I'm curious about whether you maintained your fat-adapted state prior to the marathon? Re: 2016 Boston Marathon tracking thread
I wouldn't say that you ran out of fuel, rather your adaption was not deep or long enough to see you through the race. You probably needed to train in a deeper adapted state than you did. You had enough fat cells to see you through the race. I can't speak to the GI issue. But it truly is a work in progress.Michele \"1L" Keane wrote:I did Doug - and I think I ran out of fuel.
