Mon - rest
Tue - 3.5 miles
Wed - rest
Thu - 4.8 miles
Sun - 26.2 miles - Chicagoland Spring Marathon, Schaumburg, IL - time 3:59:17
Since I wasn't happy with my 4:01 in Boston, I wanted to try another marathon. I've never done a second marathon four weeks later where I tried hard on the first so it was an awkward balance of recovery, training and taper. Anyway, I did roughly the same time as I had in Boston (two minutes less as I had no bathroom break this time). I'm really frustrated over my race times, they are so much slower than I did 2-3 years ago (3:35, 3:39, 3:45). Now I barely break four hours. I had a great training program and am not going to blame my times on that but mentally I need to move to a different program if I do anymore of these. I was trying for a 3:40 today but the last six miles were a complete joke. Splits:

Re: Your Week in Training May 12 - 18
We've all been there, matter of fact it was just last month. Well at least you broke 4:00 and you are improving. It's kind of hard to pop right back and swing a home run after a sour one, Boston especially. Hang in there and take a good break, then get back at it and don't put so much pressure on yourself just try, dare I say, Chi- running in attitude at least. Relax and enjoy the runnnn ahhhhh.JohnP wrote:Mon - rest

Re: Your Week in Training May 12 - 18
John, I've not PR'd in marathon for 4 years. And I just don't think multiple marathon works. That's why I finally decided to run Houston Half marathon instead, 2.5 months after New York. I just don't feel I can do well.JohnP wrote:Mon - rest

Re: Your Week in Training May 12 - 18
I had a very similar experience at that race, except I finished in 4:09 something. Your splits look good through 15 miles or so. I am not sure it was too much of a factor for me, but it did get warm later in the race.JohnP wrote:Mon - rest
