Memphis marathon cancelled

Drove up here and got my registration packet, got to the hotel and heard that it got cancelled. I was really excited to run my first full marathon. Now have to get back to training.

Go to marathonguide.com and find something that has spots open in the next three weeks (probably tough with the holidays upon us) if you can, and you'll be fine. Maybe Rocket City in Huntsville?

That is a bummer. I saw the news and thought of you. Definitely go to marathonguide.com and see if there is one coming up that will work for you. Maybe you can do another long run or two and then run a different one.

That's awful, Jordan. Sorry to hear it. Hope you can find a replacement race soon, because you're ready.

No one's stopping you from running 26.2 on your own, right?  

Because of the cancellation, I have been offered 1 of three options.

1. Get full refund of the registration fee
2. Get first opportunity to sign up for the race next year but I would lose this years fee and have to pay next year.
3. I can apply my registration fee to 1 of 3 races, Rock N Roll Arizona, Rock N Roll New Orleans, or the St. Jude Country Music Marathon in Nashville, TN.

Pretty nice that they are giving us these options I guess. I just can't decide which race to run. I really don't want to do Arizona so that one is out. What do ya'll think of Nashville vs. New Orleans? Anybody ever run either one?

I have done the NOLA half 2 or 3 years ago. Others have done it or the full, as well. You have to watch your foot placement on those roads. Further, they had a strange set up for getting people from the finish area in the park back to the Convention Center.

I hear Nashville is hilly, but you may have hills in NE Mississippi, so that might not be a deal killer.

I've run both the Half and Full in NOLA.  It is a flat course that is scenic and it is a fun city. Lots of hotels and great food (for after the run!).  I've run it both as a RnR and NOTC event and it is still well run.  The only drawback is that it is now bigger than ever (lots of runners), but I didn't think it was real crowded last year.  This year it is February 2nd, so I doubt that the weather will be warm.  I'll possibly be running the half again this year.

Real cool they have given you some good options! Bummer that this happen for your first marathon!
