Re: Wendy's 2013 JFK Race Report
Thanks for such a detailed report, Wendy! This race went exceedingly well for you, and you kept at it when the inevitable problems started popping up.
The internal dialog was great, BTW. I could hear your voice when I read it.: )
So... which 100-miler are you aiming for? WS seems an obvious choice if your number is picked in the lottery... but where else?

Hi, Mark. WS is my first choice...but seeing as that I have <7% chance of getting in, a plan B has definitely been formed!Mark B wrote:

I'm looking at the Kettle Moraine 100 (http://www.kettle100.com/). It is run on the same trail as Ice Age, where I did my first 50 miler.

Wow. Read every word, you had me tearing up a bit, in awe of you and what you trained for and endured out there. And frankly, it's extra inspiring knowing you're a mommy too since I feel like I'll never be able to run far again after having my babies this summer. Congratulations!

Not much I can say other than - it was such a pleasure to run with such a ROCK STAR! Call me when you get ready for your 100 - I'll be there to help with Sara Jane.
Re: Wendy's 2013 JFK Race Report
Julie...I'm so glad you liked it! You absolutely CAN come back after your babies! If you ever want to consider an ultra, please ask me for advice.Julie wrote:Wow. Michele...thanks so much for your help. It means so much to me (and Tim)! Once the 100 has been decided, I'll let you know!Michele \"1L" Keane wrote:Not much I can say other than - it was such a pleasure to run with such a ROCK STAR! Re: Wendy's 2013 JFK Race Report
congratulations! great report Wendy - you toughed it out like a beast. wtg getting your A goal! Your report brought back great memories (and made me jealous that I wasn't running it again this year). The quad pain!! I laughed a few times...especially about the little specks being people on the road section. And those orange mile markers were just awesome, right? I think you and I are a lot alike in our mental training and racing. Kettle 100 is a great race, BTW.

Wendy,
I loved your mind activities during the race, and felt like I was in the race myself, especially with all the pee stops.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I will need that soon. Racing is a mental game. I am glad and always enjoy reading how people tackle it.
Rest well!
Jerry

Congrats on a great race and training cycle. Looks like you got the fueling and hydration thing down which is key. Amazing you could remember all that detail from the race. Great job.

What an epic! Wonderful story of endurance. It must be hard to describe a level of fatigue that most of us, certainly I, have never experienced. It should have put me off the very idea of attempting an ultra, but it had the opposite effect on me. I feel inspired to have a go, and I'll bet I'm not the only one.

Great report! I hope you win the WS lottery! That would be awesome. I will be watching whatever you do for your 100 though. As a side note, I am very, very sorry for your loss of Buddy. I am a pet lover, pet Mom, and pet writer. Those things always get me teared me up.

I absolutely loved your race report, every word of it! What an accomplishment both in finishing with your goal accomplished, but more so in totally defeating the mental beast that can end a race sooner than you're really physically ready to. Wow, wow, wow! Congratulations!

You always have interesting races Wendy! Congratulations - I can't even imagine, but being able to train (relatively) injury free (or, at least debilitating injury free) was great to see. You and Tim have a great thing going!
