Re: Indianapolis 500
Weather worries, fear of not doing enough, giving your trainer a headache.
Yup. You are in the sweet spot of taper right now! Congrats on doing it all right up to this point!
I have a feeling this is going to be a great race for you. As long as there isn't 3 feet of snow on the ground, of course...

Re: Indianapolis 500
Well, I hope so, Mark. Today I ran 10 miles at MP even though I had no idea I was running MP since my Garmin decided not to record distance so we just guessed and then I measured it with gmaps later (we were probably 10.1 by recognizing the landmarks). Legs felt like lead weights in the last 4 miles and I'm certain I cannot possibly run 26.2 that fast next weekend.
We did see several deer and a "rafter" of wild turkeys. There were at least 2 doz turkeys and those suckers are pretty big. We kept laughing about how Gary didn't have his rifle or bow.

Re: Indianapolis 500
Looks like you're all set for the race. If you want 'real' weather, go to www.noaa.gov , type in Indianapolis, and scroll down to the Hourly graphs and click that. Usually it shows just 5 days out but you can finagle it by going to the last day and time available on the drop down 48 hour period arrow to show Saturday. I checked and it's dry, windchill about 41 at the start. Be aware that we'll probably have wind and that will drop the temps some. Perfect weather for you. You'll be done before the 20 mph+ gusting starts. It seems like it's been windy the past few years. I can remember when (was it AmyJo?) that ran it and never saw mile marker 23....I had seen it coming around mile 10 of the half blowing down the street. LOL
So, how do you feel now?

Re: Indianapolis 500
Minus one Nick as I run on Saturday! Of course, I'm stressed as my left quad is bothering me today and yesterday's final long run (10 miles) seemed way too hard (last 6 at MP as prescribed). I sure do hope that it is all normal or else I'm in big trouble on Saturday. I seriously have not race a marathon since NYC in November, 2011 and my Garmin would not link on to a satellite yesterday. (And my Red Sox were robbed).
Weekly Recap:
Mon - Day off
Tues - 8 miles done as 4 x 7 min hard with 2 min rest, warm up and cool down. Weights. Track was closed due to a soccer tournie.
Wed - 3.3 easy miles (30 min recovery run)
Thurs - 6 easy miles; Weights
Fri - Day off
Sat - 10 miles with 7 at MP. Seemed way too hard
Sun - Day off
WTD: 27.3 miles
YTD: 1464 miles I am pleased with this as my mileage is coming back.
As an aside, my total mileage in 2012 for the year was 1598, 1612 in 2010, 1314 in 2009; 2046 in 2012. I won't make the 2012 total, but I should surpass the other years which hopefully will be a good lead in to Boston in April. I do have two months left.

Re: Indianapolis 500
After two off days, I had my last "speed" session before Saturday. 5 miles done in the form of 3 min hard followed by 1.5 min easy for 4 repeats after warm up and followed by a cool down. Felt very good. Overall 8:18 pace.

8 Boston titles by the four different teams in the past 11 years. Doesn't get much better than that.
Have a great race.

Re: Indianapolis 500
Fun game to watch last night.
Would have loved it if Jacoby had been able to steal a base but he did keep it interesting. He's a local boy...a couple years younger than our youngest son. They were in school together but didn't know each other well as they were involved in different activities. He was/is a neat kid and his family is also great. It will be interesting to see if he's able to stay in Boston...
Run well and enjoy the weekend Michele...

That's cool, Nancy. The scuttlebutt is that Seattle wants him, but someone will have to pay. I hope he stays put, but I also understand if he heads west.nkrichards wrote:Fun game to watch last night.

Re: Indianapolis 500
In one way it would be fun to have him in Seattle...closer to home....but I'd really like him to stay in Boston. The local rumor is that he's kind of hoping that he can stay in Boston but realizes that baseball is a business and he may not have as much input in the final decision as he'd like.Michele \"1L" Keane wrote:That's cool, Nancy.
