Cool!
Re: JFK Registration Opens Today
where does everyone stay? Are there pre-race events, post-race or anything that is a must do? I have a sister in Chevy Chase (DC area), MD. Should I reserve a room at her house or is it better to stay out near the race? I know we have months in front of us yet, but if there is some preferred hotel, I'd rather book and change later rather than miss out.

Re: JFK Registration Opens Today
Everyone stays where everyone stays. This is an ultra--very laid back and informal. You could stay at the Clarion Hotel in Hagerstown (the host hotel). The advantages would be hob-knobbing with lots of others who will run the race and having to drive only 20 minutes to Boonsboro. You could stay in the Inn at Boonsboro [if it's not already full] and not have to drive at all. Its a small town where you can buy your bait, ammo and ice cream across the street. But many of us locals drive up in the wee hours of the morning. I say: stay at your sister's place in Chevy Chase. There are no 'must do' pre-race events, but the post-race shin dig at Chris's place is mandatory.mountandog wrote:where does everyone stay? Athletics later? The only part of me moving will be my right arm hoisting bloody mary's.

Re: JFK Registration Opens Today
Well I tried to book the penthouse at the inn in boonsboro but already booked. They only have two rooms left. So for the price we will stay in Hagerstown again. It's only a short 20 to 30 min drive. There is a great restaurant to eat at in Hagerstown very very small joint but the food is great. I will have to get the name of the place again.

I thought I'd make a hotel reservation to hold a room and was surprised to find many of them "full". I was able to book the Hampton (not the one on I-81) to hold a room. Any of you who are "running" might want to hold a room now. You can always change/cancel later.

FYI if you want to stay at the Clarion were the packet pick-up just mention that you are running the JFK 50. They have a number of rooms blocked off. We will be staying there Thursday night for 90 bucks and it is 100 bucks for Friday.

I'm already getting excited for this even though there's still the matter of Glass City in a couple of weeks. Of course once I'm reduced to crawling out on the tow path I'm sure I won't be as excited in that moment.

Well, it seems quite a few of you were wrong. About the registration window and the ability of non-"A" qualifiers to get into the race.
Long story short: Last week during a 3:00am, Ativan-induced haze and with incoherent brain function brought on by severe anxiety, law school finals, and the devastating recent loss of my father, I decided to send in an application for JFK.
Verdict: This "C" qualifier (I missed the "B" by only 2 minutes!) who sent in her registration on April 25th...is IN!
And while my coach is excited (ok, excited and pissed, since I promised to be her race crew) I am a bit, well,
OK. I am excited. And I am ready for the challenge. Bring it on.
The race is 2 days after my 35th birthday. It's gonna be epic, folks. See you there.

That's right. No more coffee. Just green tea and controlled medications.
(I have no idea how to appropriately quote on this new board)

Talk about epic! Congrats on getting in, Sara Jane. You're going to have a blast.
Sorry to hear about your father, though. My condolences.
