That varies widely based on climate and location. In the north, that staement is probably true. In the south, especially in residential communities, not having a pool can be an issue.

I read it in a Nebraska newspaper so I'm not surprised it doesn't apply everywhere. I imagine pool upkeep is an extra expense that some home owners don't want, though.

Maybe it's harder everywhere else (and without a screen enclosure) but in Florida, an untrained monkey can maintain a pool.
