Dallas County Komen 5K race
I was in Dallas to help celebrate my sister in law's 5 year anniversary of kicking breast cancer and ran the 5K on Saturday. Dallas is hillier than Houston, so I was hoping for a decent time. My PR is 30:50 set in 2006
It was a low 60's morning, which was fine and I was on the 'timed runner' side of the street and it was the closest to the starting line I had ever been.
Most of the other 25,000 people were either walking or running as best as you can with 25,000 people doing it.
I decided not to look at my Garmin, so it wouldn't influence me one way or the other. At the 2 mile mark, the course clock said 19:20. Really? THAT'S a PR in the works! I wasn't panting or feeling supremely taxed at that point, so I was hoping for a flatter last mile to bring it home. I crossed the finish line with a time of 29:26, which means I had a PR of 1 minute and 24 seconds, including mile 3 as the fastest time at 9:18 at 90% HR max. What a nifty way to start the racing season.
Thanks for your time.

Congrats, oz! That race is too crowded, go find a small and flat one to see your real improvement!

Re: Dallas County Komen 5K race
Most of the people were not timed. They were probably walking with other people 5 or 6 abreast.
Across the median were the timed runners and there were less than a thousand. My chip time was only 12 seconds slower than gun time. After the first 150 yards, I could get set into a pace.
And thanks for the attaboys, too.
