Dallas All Comers Track Meet - 800m
First lap: 67
Excited. Hmm, if I could pick up 2 second, I would beat my youth 2:13 PR. The excitement lasted 1 second. Mission impossible.
2:20-21 finish time. 7 seconds better than 2 years ago.
But I won the heat. Heehee.
The overall winner, also the winner of the next/last heat clocked 2:13.
Then, I joined the crowd for the 2 miles and lapped tons. And the next to the last lap, sensing the leader was coming, I told myself: no way I am going to let him pass me easy.
When he did, I told myself: who cares!
I was seriously hurting.
12:41 finish time.
Last week, I did 4:47 1500m. No way I am going to beat my youth 4:39 time. I am on the fence if I go back in the next two weeks to get under 4:45 for 1500m and 2:20 for 800m. They hurt and I didn't feel any satification after the events.

The 2 miles is just 15 minutes after the 800. I was still in pain.

Are you really going to take that from Chris? Is this a new Jerry we are seeing on the new site?
By the way great job Jerry sounds like you are having fun on the track, well as much as it can be. I haven't raced on a track since the state track meet in 1990 on the mile relay team. Good times

Re: Dallas All Comers Track Meet - 800m
Love these track nights, I have made it out to two in the last two weeks. I run every event they have each night.
For two events last night, I had less than 2 minutes in between events.
Last night was:
800m
200m
1M
400m
5000m (only ran 4 laps at or below race pace)
4x400m
How many events do they run at your meets? You should run them all!!!

Oh, in that case the fact that you couldn't even get yourself to half marathon speed in a two mile track race is totally understandible. Oh wait, no, its not. 12:41 is flat out pitiful for a 2:20 800 guy. How pitiful? I WOULD LAP YOU.

You guys are both terrible. I'm 99% sure I could go under 2:30 in the 800 and run in the 5:20s in the mile (maybe faster with a couple attempts) but you'd both blow me away at anything longer than that. Man up!

You will lap me with or without the 800m first?
Either way, you will NOT lap me.

So after you are 10 seconds behind me in 800, you still have the guts to step on the mile race with me. I have to at least applaud your dare try spirit.
Go get your BQ before you challenge me.

Chris looks at the time and imagine what he laps Jerry. He has no idea what a track race is about.

I've done track races. What's to know? I don't have to have that much imagination to picture lapping some guy doing 2 miles at 6:20 pace. I can imagine people lining up and thinking "oh shit, this guy just ripped through 2 70 second laps...he's going to be doing 5:30s in this race....oh, wait, why is he jogging? Must be a different guy than that one who did the 800. Just stay out of lane 1 if you are going to run that slow, sir. "

The schedule is something similar, 7 track events. I do 2, first as the targeted race, 2nd as workout. Can't do more.
You crazy to do all. A dude from our running club did the same thing. He did a 2:14 800m last week and tied my 800m this time as his 5th event of the night. Finally I lapped him in the 2 miles.
What did you do with the 800m?

You don't get it. The math tells you can lap a 12:40 2 miler, but not Jerry, because math doesn't calculate character or the fear of humiliation for a long time.

Ha ha - ok, on that point I concede to you. No friggin way would you let me lap you, no matter how sore you were from the 800.Jerry wrote:Chris M wrote:Jerry wrote:Schuey wrote:Chris M wrote:Jerry wrote:Chris M wrote:2:20 800 = impressive
