Lunar Racer Empty Lunar Racer

I have the first generation that I bought last year for Chicago with 2 marathon distance on. I tried them on just now and they appear to have more cushion than the other old pair, but I don't have a sense what new ones feel.

Shall I use them one more marathon December?

No way. Lunars have a short shelf life mileage-wise for races. I wouldn't race on them for a marathon if a pair had more than 50 miles. For shorter stuff and workouts, no problems. I think Dave has Lunars with close to 500 miles on them. But for a marathon, you should get the current pair (which is basically a re-release of Lunar 1 so the Lunar 3s are like the 1s but the 2s are completely different) as a new pair for the race and do only 10-20 miles on them pre-race.
