Fast Finish vs. pace Run Empty Fast Finish vs. pace Run

Next week is my final week before tapering. I have two choices I can do 10 w/ 6 @ MP on Sat followed by 20 miles or do you think 20 miles w/3@MP is more beneficial. I have done both through this cycle doing paces of 5,6,9, and 12 some on my Long runs others solo.

I don't understand the question, Kenny. Can you lay out the proposed week of training so we can see the choices in context?

For me, the primary run is the pace run but I'm thinking about doing both a pace run and fast finish run at the end of my peak week.

Fast Finish vs. pace Run Untitl50

This vs. maybe 20 with 3@MP or like above do both. Which can be doable.

OK, now I get it.

If you want a challenge, then doing both is a good option. I've done this before where I did 12 miles at marathon pace followed the next day by a 3/1 20 miler. I'm sure you remember what that is, but just in case, a 3/1 is where you run the first 3/4 of the workout at normal pace and then do the last 1/4 at near marathon pace. So it's 15 easy followed by 5 at or near mp.

I did this for my last two workouts before a three week taper and I got my BQ.

I was going to say 10 GA Saturday followed by 20 with the last 10 at MP Sunday.

Then I read Stan's suggestion and I like that more. That's 2 tough runs. Its more like the Hal combo of 10 pace followed by 20 LSD but tougher. 12 pace and then a 3/1 20 with the last 5 being pace. My confidence to be able to run at MP would be very very high if I could complete that Saturday/Sunday combo. Go for Stan's suggestion!

I was going to suggest the same exact thing that Chris was. 10GA followed by 20 w/ last 10 @ MP. That was my peak weekend, I was dying by the end of the 20, but it gave me the confidence to know that I had my BQ in my sights.

I think just doing 20 after the previous six days is impressive. You sure you are running these training runs hard enough?? That LT run looks tough. I did 10 w/ 4 @ 15k pace on Tuesday and it wiped me. I'm not running hard again until Sunday.

Hey Kenny, I don't want to steer you wrong since I told you my intended plan so I'll give you my updated plan. Just did 16 w/ 14 @ MP, Sat I plan to do 15 then Sun I will do 22 and if I feel up to it I will finish with 6 @ MP.

I think so! Ill know more tomorrow after my HM if I am dogging it a bit on the LT runs.

Good information everyone. Not sure I need another 12@MP. But I am considering all the options. Thanks!
