NJ State Police 5k Race Reports
Coming off 9 days rest and only 3 weeks of building back up I was not sure how I'd perform.
Although the race advertises certified 5000m course, when I asked some people at the start who have run this before they said it is quite short. WTF
Anyways, it did not detract me from giving it my all. Better to know before the start then during.
Mile 1 played it a bit safe as I was told there are some hills (and there where) 6:42
Mile 2 was a breeze do to some downhills and I really felt capable at this point 6:28
Mile 3 a few hills but one significant bump in the road really took the wind out of me but was still at a good pace. As I passed the hill the straight away I saw the finish line knowing all to well this was not 3.1 miles. I gave it my all and despite some younger kid telling me to go get it, he past me like I was standing still. Clocked the last .97 miles at 6:33 pace.
This was a small race of about 75 people if that. Drove about 45 minutes to get there thinking it was certified (which they claim it is). Although disappointed in the course I was happy with my time.
Came in 19:43 probably top 7 unofficial 3.1 time pace on pace would have been 20:35 and that is 10 seconds faster than my last 2 previous 5k's this year.
MY official PR is 20:23 (real course) so I am getting closer.

Sorry about the uncertified course, but congrats on a job well done, Kenny.

Hey Kenny, you're back after a long hiatus and ... you're faster than ever. Maybe we should all take a break no? Nice to see you back in action. Keep on running my friend.
