13.1 Atlanta
Atlanta 13.1 Race
This was my primary test race leading up to the Savannah Marathon.
My goal was to run this race hard. This would give me a good idea were my fitness is.
My Goal Marathon is super flat. This 1/2 Marathon is not... (Even Michele the Mountain Goat thinks it is a bit hilly, or at least she did last year.)
During my warm-up (~2.5 Miles) I could definitely feel the fatigue in my legs.
The race went well, 1:20:55, which is a PR, and on this course a pretty good time.
As a bonus, I won my age group.
My fitness is not quite were I planned, but considering the weather this summer (giving me a bad excuse to skip almost all my Tempo and LT workouts) and terrible weeks of training I had this cycle, it is pretty decent, and should allow me to go 2:55ish at Savannah.

Congrats on the PR! And nice splits, especially considering the varied terrain. Way to drop the hammer in the last two miles.

Re: 13.1 Atlanta
Fabulous race, G. Then you get a PR and age group win. Awesome.
If you use the formula-- half marathon time x 2 plus 10 minutes, I'd say you're looking pretty good for a shot well below 2:55.

Re: 13.1 Atlanta
Way to run, Gobbles. It is an extremely hilly course and you nailed it. I think you are ready for Savannah. I bailed on the race as I needed to get my 20 in after last week's failure - so an alias ran it for me.
Re: 13.1 Atlanta
Sure wish I was in as crappy shape as you are!
Nicely done!

That was FAST for Atlanta!!! Great job - that result should stoke the fires a little. Age group win to boot? That is really really cool... Congrats!

Re: 13.1 Atlanta
1:20 on a hilly course mid-cycle is most definitely a good sign for 2:55. No doubt.
Congrats on the AG win as well.

Re: 13.1 Atlanta
I agree 1:20 on that type of elevation in the phase you are at is a tremendous job making 2:55 more then reasonable. Congrats on a heavenly great race!

Re: 13.1 Atlanta
Wow - i was impressed by the time but way more so once I saw the course profile. 2:55? Looks like a sub 2:50 kind of run to me. Why not go for the giant 15 min PR!?! You are flat killing it right now. Keep it up!
