Houston post-Olympic Trials lunch
Saturday, January 14 at 1 p.m. at Mia Bella Trattoria Italian Restaurant http://miabellarestaurants.com/ at 1204 Caroline will be the more than likely location for the 365Runners Post-Olympic Trials lunch.
I know they're still in business because I drove by there on Saturday. I will drive down there on Wednesday evening to make sure the food is as good as it was last year.
Mia Bella is next door to the House of Blues, which is at the corner of Caroline and Dallas, 5 blocks from the George R Brown Convention Center (GRB). There are 2 Mia Bellas downtown, so punch in the 1204 Caroline address as the correct address.
I would like to get a headcount of pretty firm attendees, so I can make reservations. I figure there will be more people in town because of the Trials, so I think the sooner the better.
I can't make it any earlier than 1 p.m. because I'm volunteering for the Trials and am committed until noon. People that haven't retrieved their race packet have until 6 p.m. on Saturday to get it, so you'll be close to the GRB in order to fetch your packet, after we have eaten.
So please let me know who all will be coming. Looking forward to breaking bread with y'all.
The above is a reprint of the thread from Calendar Events. Thanks, Kevin.
So far, the headcount is:
me - 1
KBFitz - 1
Michele - 1,but probably more.
Joel - 1,plus maybe the FIL. (Both attended last year's event)
Michael - 1
The Millers - 2
Jerry - and 2 more
Sara Jane - 1, maybe
People that I know will be in town, but haven't heard from yet:
LizR,Michael, and The Millers.
Quantity of8 7, plus 1 on the fence as of 9Jan 10Jan 13Jan.

Doug - I'm one for now, but a couple of ATC friends will be in town, so I reached out to them to see if they wish to join us. I'll let you know.

I'm gonna be there (See http://www.365runners.com/t79-chevron-houston-marathon) but don't know my plans yet - I can likely make it. I come with the Millers as a third wheel-type appendage. If it's too late to RSVP, I will just crash or sit at the table next to you and watch...

I am more likely a "no" than a "yes" at this point...But still a "maybe." And clearly annoying.

There's time. The Expo will still be there after the lunch. I don't know where y'all are staying, but I can propose some route changes that an iPhone won't be considering. Or propose some restaurants for Friday evening. I'll play the part of concierge.

Dinner? Ooh, I think I'll be in a fetal position Sunday night. Friday evening, though, has possibilities. I'll still be in carbo-loading mode.
Separately, the Houston Marathon has an app to download for both the Olympic Trials and Sunday's race. So, I get to say, 'There's an app for that.' Search "Houston Marathon", evidently Chevron didn't want to be part of it.

To me, it looks like Jerry is going too square on us.
No telling what he really means.

To be very clear, I will be there to have my free lunch. My friends will be there witnesses and pay their own meal.

I don't arrive on Friday night until 8:45 pm - so that is out. You will be fine after the race on Sunday, and we all need a beer. I'm trying to figure out if I will wait at the finish for you marathoners or "jog" back along the course. We can talk about it at lunch on Saturday.

Glad to hear you'll be coming. So the Marathon Commitee came up with your appearance fee?

Now you mention it, I am totally pissed off that they didn't give me an appearance fee and decided to cancel the trip.
Alright, seriously, some family stuff came up that I have to cancel the trip.
Sorry.

I will be there. Plans have been made. Joel and I are figuring out what to do. Either we sit the whole time or we go point to point and watch them.

You talking about watching the trial or lunch?

Their doing both. If only someone cared enough about Jerry to allow him to come to Houston for the day.

Oz - I will be there (no FIL this year) but I plan on dragging Michael to it as well so the count should stay the same.

Sorry to hear about that, Joel. I've told Michael over on the KHOU boards that KBFitz thinks Michael is virtual-only.
Should find out in about 19 hours. See you tomorrow.
