rythmic breathing anyone? Empty rythmic breathing anyone?

I've been working on learning this technique for about a month now. its somewhat challenging, requires constant focus. I feel like i am almost there. I find myself running with my cadence and breathing in sync with each other more and more. And its amazing really. I am able to run faster and longer with less effort. but every now and again i fall out of rythm, and it takes a while to get back into it again. I just wanted to know, if these short spans of uncoordinated running where im out of rythm can cause injury?

No I don't believe so.  I don't use rhythmic breathing techniques per se, although we all do to an extent.  I have a friend who trains only by effort and counting breaths and it does work - so you are on the right track.  It will soon become common place and you will not have to think so much.

I base my effort on inhale:exhale ratios counting on my left foot... 1:20 is easy, 1:15 is marathon pace, 1:12 is tempo, 1:10 is 10k, etc.

I'm sure if you plugged my nose I'd realize I'm taking small inhales but this is for full breaths.  I'm probably alone in this, though.

Count on left footstrike.  Breathe in for 1 cycle, out for 20 = easy.  In for 1, out for 15 = marathon effort.  Etc.  Smile
