Bucket List
So I saw Jack's thoughts on 2012, but I thought I'd expand the conversation. I turn 55 in a couple of weeks and so my thoughts have turned to what is realistic in the time left == yes morbid, but what the hell. There are certainly some things I want to do. So let's start our own running bucket list and perhaps we can hook up for a few. Running only, my other list would run for pages and pages. So for a starter, and I revise the right to edit:
- Comrades - actually have been to South Africa, rode some of the course......but all before I started running..
- JFK
- Break 3:00:00 for 26.2 (time is running out on this one)
- Break 39:00 for a 10k and 19:00 for a 5k
- Big relay like Hood to Coast -- especially with my kids and siblings
- Some fantastic destination race, Napa, Medoc, Berlin..................suggestions appreciated
- Something really tough like Mt. Washington or Pikes Peak

Re: Bucket List
Great topic
This is probably subject to change:
complete full ironman
qualify for and run Boston, someday run sub 3:10
break 19 in a 5K
break 40 in a 10K
run a 50 mile race
Things that are just pipe dreams, but sure would be cool:
Qualify for Kona in a 70.3 or 140.6
Win a race. Any race.
Complete a 100 mile race
Run the Western States 100
Run a marathon sub 3
Watch the Hokies win a national championship
Things that probably sound cooler than they actually are, but would be a crazy accomplishment
race an ultraman
run badwater

Re: Bucket List
I have a few:
I figure that is enough for now.
- Qualify for and run Boston
- Run a 10K in 43:45
- Qualify for the Marathon Maniacs
I figure that is enough for now.

Re: Bucket List
Chicago - should be next fall
North Country 50 miler - August 2012
Umstead 100 - 2013
Leadville 100 - 2013 or 2014 (IF I survive the Umstead)
A few more marathons
A lot of trail runs of varying distances - mainly 50K - 50 miles
Composing even better songs and musicals as the years continue to roll by.

Re: Bucket List
I am not one to do a bucket list. Kind of takes away from the present moment for me. I will continue to train and it would be nice to BQ and run Boston. I am considering something a bit wild for 2012 but got to see if I can do it both physically, logistically and matrimonially.!
Re: Bucket List
slim but fading hope of breaking 3:00
<39:00 next year and then sub 38:00
<18:00 5k
1:25 half marathon
Training for the next 2 years with extreme consistency.
Saving enough to bring my family to the Comrades Marathon in 2013.

Re: Bucket List
With the growing realization that my knee doesn't have too many more marathons left in it, I think my Bucket List will be comprised of qualifying for one last Boston Marathon (hopefully in Philly next month), and running Boston one more time, with the goal of improving on my miserable performance there earlier this year.
