Autism Speak 5k Quick Report
I made a 19:55 guest appearance at today's 5k race in Long Branch, NJ. A
new PR by 18 seconds. However, they enjoyed my company so much they
took liberty to extend the course by .10 miles to keep me there for
20:37. I did take 3rd place overall and was awarded with an oversized
fleece zip up. At start of race they announced the 5K course is 3.2+
miles. But hey this was for Autism....mmmmmm (scratching my head).
Weather was cool 57 a bit of a headwind last mile but nothing unmanageable.
The course was accurate except for the last .1 miles which was .22 on garmin so I assume .2 overall.
Mile 1: 6:29 2 kids ahead of me by 30 seconds or so was feeling ok but knowing the course was long was not a big help to getting me to PR.
Mile 2: 6:20 - Figured I'd gut it out picked up pace no one close behind me
Mile 3: 6:31 - this mile hurts always but figured I was sub 20 on a real 5k
So at this point the course was accurate time was 19:20 as I hit mile 3. The woman even announced it as 19:20 so I new things were good.
But the last .1 miles was just double the distance or .22 roughly
.1 = 1:15 so I figure I was about 37 seconds
Overall according the Garmin data etc. 19:55 was my 5k time. Mission accomplished.
I did warm and cool down for a mile giving me 5 for the day.

CONGRATS on your sub-20!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I knew you could do it! The course was a little long, but you DID break a 20 minute 3.1 miles. That is a great confirmation for a lot of ass-busting work this summer. GREAT JOB!

Great job on the sub-20 Kenny. The speed's there and the endurance is there so bring them both to Hartford and you've got it.

Re: Autism Speak 5k Quick Report
Great job! And for a great cause! I worked with many students who had autism when I worked in the public school system.
I have no idea about the extra .1 but congrats on the fleece jacket.

Sub 20 Kenny, whoot!!
That should give you a shot of confidence and provide the proof that the sub 3:15 is going to happen. Have a great taper then go out there and show us what you've got.
