Half Madness Race Report
Peggy and I ran this race together yesterday in Batavia. We stayed with my dad and step-mom who live in Batavia the day before and it was nice to visit with them. I helped my dad's neighbor by getting on his roof and staining the cedar siding on the dormers.
We woke up to nice cool weather and got ready while my dad and step-mom slept. We were out the door by 6:25 for the 7:00 AM race. We drove a few blocks and parked at the local library. From there we walked about 2 blocks and got in line after using the porta potties.
The start was a little congested for a short while, but after it opened up we sped up a little too much. Peggy's hal PR is just under 2:00 and she didn't train specifically for this. Mile 2 was in 8:36, way too fast. As the miles went on we settled into a better pace. I was proud of Peggy that she never stopped to walk up the hilly parts of the course. The course was partly on riverfront trails and partly neighborhood streets. The streets weren't closed, but the busy intersections were manned by the police and they did a great job. By mile 10 Peggy couldn't get her pace under 10/mile, but then the next few miles she sped up a bit again. Shortly before we hit mile 13 I asked her to give it everything she had for the last mile. She said to me "I am already giving it everything!". Shortly before the finish line we held hands and crossed the finish line that way. What a great way to run a race together! Sh rocked the race yesterday in an official time of 2:03:35. She beat me by over half a second, way to go Peggy!
Overall this was a nice race we will probably do together again.

Good stuff Jim and Peg!
(now, we just need to work on those 8:35 splits in order to get Peg under 2:00...)

Congratulations Jim and Peggy, great race and finish. Her remark at the end was very funny!
