Are we heavier in summer?
Because our bodies retain more water to counter the heat?
I have no idea and just post a question.

Yes, it's a defensive reaction to the heat.
Except for you.

Re: Are we heavier in summer?
I'm not. Summer = more walking and more running just more exercise, less baking and eating.
Winter = may as well bake and warm the house up, can't run outside because it's too icy so I gain up to 5 lbs.

Re: Are we heavier in summer?
Winter = gain fat for insulation
Spring = get serious about losing weight
Summer = DO something serious about losing weight - like sign up for fall marathon
Fall = race weight!
Your results may vary depending on your latitude

Re: Are we heavier in summer?
Nope I'm not heavier.
Maybe try to train consistently Jerry and your weight might stay the same or go down. It seems like for you, your training is opposite of people up North.
Most up here don't like training in the winter and don't get on the treadmill as much as they would run in the summer. So hence some will put weight on in the winter, I could be wrong but it seems like you train harder during the winter since it is cooler in Texas at that time.
I know you are doing more this summer then maybe in the past but the above is the only reason why I would think you are heavier in the summer compared to the winter.
You must find balance in your training young grasshopper and then you will find balance in your weight. Plus what do consider heavy? You way a buck, how much lighter do you want to be?

Ok, I take it back now I realize the only response may be from VW. I will have lunch at subway today.

Promises, promises.
Re: Are we heavier in summer?
I just checked in over there - first time in weeks. Looks like Hal's doing some rearranging. The v-team forum is being merged with the blog forum into All About Running. The calendar has been eliminated. The times, they are a'changin'...
And yep, VW is still there...

Re: Are we heavier in summer?
well I was not trying to be un-supportive, but, I wonder if it does have something to do with where you live because I was being serious. I get very little mileage in January and also it's too cold and icy to just take my toddler for a walk or walk to a store or anything.
It makes sense that the heat would make you maybe retain more water? but I don't think it would be that much.
I remember when I was engaged to be married in July and one of my running friends said that was the perfect time because my body fat would be at the year's low.

Julie, your bad to be serious on Jerry's thread while Jerry's fault to ask a serious question. As a result, Jerry is driving home without turning on the AC under 104 temperature as a self punishment.
Good day!

Maybe it's all the sweet tea they serve in the summertime in the hot-n-sweaty parts of the country?

Re: Are we heavier in summer?
I am not heavier either, despite all the ice cream I am eating to stay cool.
Some things expand in the heat...maybe you are one of them.

Re: Are we heavier in summer?
Scales = overrated. That said, I stop giving a shit about my eating between late summer and late fall, just in time for the holidays
