I interupted my marathon training to run this. It's my favorite race. 7.1M. Beautiful course that goes along the ocean. It's an elite race on the summer pro circuit and Joan Benoit, Bill Rodgers, Frank Shorter ran as well. Close to 11,000 ran it.

I started in the first wave and second corral. The mistake I made was not starting near the front of the corral. The first three miles are rollings hills and I spent them weaving in and out of people, slowing down, speeding up. It was like a fartlek workout. I wasted a lot of engery. I didn't hit my groove until into the fourth mile.

At this point you're going right along the ocean and I was cruising. I felt pretty strong. There's a deceptive hill right near the end that catch many off guard. I've run this many times so I knew it was coming. Then you bee-line it to the finish. My old PR was 50:15 and I hit in 48:28. I finished 502 of 10,955. I was pretty happy. I know I left some time on the course in those first three miles. Oh well. I had fun.

Great job! The weaving is hard I agree but sometimes it helps with that whole going out too fast bit

Smile Now get back to that marathon training!

I did this race a million years ago. It is a beautiful course and setting and really fun atmosphere. I need to return!

Oh how I've missed running Falmouth over the years (my last one was the summer of 1989!), and I'm so glad to be going to Falmouth for a mini college reunion in late September, just so I can run along the course.

Congrats on the PR, Alex. The course isn't easy with those early hills (and the last one before the final downhill finish), and I can't imagine what it is like running the distance with ove 11,000 runners. I'm sure it wasn't nearly that big when I ran it back in the 80s. Where do all those runners stay???

Thanks everyone.

That's a great picture Chris.

Michele, I ran it in '89 as well and yeah fewer runners. I used to be able to get clear within a half mile but not now. As for where everyone is staying, Falmouth was no more busier over the weekend then any other year so they must be staying elsewhere on the Cape. You should definitely jump on the course and run if you're going to be down there.

Looks like a beautiful race judging by Chris's photo. Great job getting the PR Alex, especially with the slower first half.

Alex great race and congrats on the PR. See there is some speed to those legs of yours, looks like marathon training is paying off for you. Keep it buddy!

Great job Alex cheers - sounded like a blast! Next time I'm in a mess like that I will remember that and tell myself that it is just a good fartlek workout!!!

Definitely a race I'd like to run someday. And while its easy to think you left time on the course, that pacing looks pretty good to me.
