Hmmm...We'll have to see about that

Re: I Think I'll Go To Boston...
Day 7 of 8 in a row last evening. A surprisingly easy 12 miler happened. Still wanting to to keep the effort easy, knowing that I have a 20 miler scheduled for 15 hours after this run, I was surprised how fast my pace actually was. I ended up finishing 12.34 miles sooner than I had anticipated. Which was good, as the little lady and I had tickets to see an illusionist at the the Overture Center for the Arts. Date night!!

Re: I Think I'll Go To Boston...
Saturday morning saw me up and att'em, trying to tackle another 20 miler. My legs were pretty tired after the pounding I had put them through the 7 days prior. That being said, I knew that I could not push this run, but just get the mileage in. I had visions of a Sunday rest day as I started out on the run. My legs held up pretty well, but were pretty much done with me by mile 18. I kept on, as the last 1 1/2 miles had me conquering three large hills. I made it through and when I looked at my watch, I was pleasantly surprised to see that I ran this 20 miler over 3 minutes faster than the one I ran two weeks ago. Which makes me wonder how well I could have ran if I wasn't on my 8th day in a row. 20.05 miles totaled for the run and 80+ miles for the 8 days in a row.

Yesterday, I finally had a rest day. What a relief Although, I spent most of it in a basement completing my Fantasy Baseball Draft.

Nice work on the back-to-backs, AND on taking a well-deserved rest day.

Wow...that was a well deserved rest day! Sounds like things are coming together well for you. I can't believe how quickly this is all happening. I keep getting emails from Boston which remind me that I really am doing this...

Re: I Think I'll Go To Boston...
Sunday's off day allowed me to double up yesterday. During my lunch break, I was able to get in a quick 3 miles. Then, after work I got in some weight training and core work before heading out for another 6 miles. All I can say is that my legs feel much better than they did at the start of my 20 miler on Saturday. Things should get back to normal by the end of the week.

Re: I Think I'll Go To Boston...
A brisk overcast 50 degrees for my run this afternoon, but still a nice day for a run. I completed 10.23 miles and was pleased to find that my legs have snapped nicely from last week. I could pay the pace if I wanted to and the pace was much faster and easier. Looking forward to this weekend's 20 miler!

An easy run last night, as I completed 6.26 miles. Just putting in the work right now, which is pretty nice. Just a few more weeks now, before I'll line up to the start of one of the greatest running races in the world.

Re: I Think I'll Go To Boston...
Saturday - I got in a good 12 miler, not wanting to push it too much knowing that my 20 miler was looming on Sunday. I totaled an easy 12.46 miles.
Sunday - 20 miles on a brisk Sunday morning. I ended up breaking out my running tights, as it was quite cold out. I decided to go with a short sleeve tech shirt with my arm sleeves. That way if I did get warm, I could take the sleeves off. I started out a little faster than I thought that I would, but my legs felt great, so I decided to keep the faster pace. Like I had stated, my legs felt 100% better than the 20 miler that I had ran the prior Saturday. I ran a new loop that found me running along some of the rural points of the Capital City Bike Trail. Then, once it came back around into the city, I came upon some nice elevation changes. I was feeling really good when I got to the 15 mile mark, so I decided to make it a 3/1 run and pushed it a little bit over the final 5 miles. I ended up finishing 20.66 miles with the final 5 miles at a 7:45 pace. I was extremely happy with this run. Step back week this week, and then my final 20 miler the following week, before the start of taper.

So how does that extremely happy run calculate to your target range for the race...it's in Boston?

Ooo! It's so nice when a run goes really well after such a challenging training cycle. It'll give you a lot of encouragement as you submit to the terrible joy that is called taper.

I feel like I am ready to run Boston comfortably at Michele's pace. Still have another 20 miler next week.

Step back week this week, which started out with a 3 mile recovery run with core work and light weight training. Then, I had an off day on Tuesday, a cool 8 miles on Wednesday, and a cold 6 miles last night. Need to rest up for one more hard week next week.

Re: I Think I'll Go To Boston...
Well shoot...while finishing up an easy 6 miler on Thursday I felt a niggle in my right hammy. I finished up the final .25 miles of the run and was glad that I had an off on Friday. I felt it a little bit on Friday, so I decided to take the day off on Saturday hoping the extra day will do it good. I felt good today, so I decided to give it a go, but I only made it .50 miles before I felt what was like a cramp sensation in my hammy. I shut it down immediately and dejectedly walked back to my car.
So, it looks like I have a mild strain (self diagnosed). My plan of attack is to take the week off from running and implement a regimn of RICE. I have a little over 3 weeks to get healthy, so there should be time to heal. I am currently in good enough shape to comfortably run a 3:30-3:40 marathon, so I just need to maintain fitness in the meantime. Hopefully I will at least be able to use the elliptical to stay fit. It's just a bummer, since I was having such a good training cycle.

Re: I Think I'll Go To Boston...
That's not good news! My hamstring strain seems to have healed up well with RICE. I took a week off from running but was able to continue to swim. The next week I eased back in and I was back to pretty much full training after about 10 days.
Take it easy...an early taper won't do any damage especially if you still plan to step back and run with Michele.

Re: I Think I'll Go To Boston...
No problem, you will be fine since you were very smart not to run through the hammie thingie. A massage and some foam rolling will probably help and at this point you are ready anyway since you were not really planning to race.
Re: I Think I'll Go To Boston...
Rest helps so much. I wouldn't feel badly taking it easy a few days.
