Re: Hat or no hat?
sun visor for me. And sunglasses. I wear a mesh hat if it's raining, though.

If it's really raining out, I'll wear a hat. Other than that, I go au naturel. On my head anyway. Except for sunglasses.

Re: Hat or no hat?
If the sun is out I usually will wear my yellow V-Team running hat to keep the sun off of my scalp and face.
I generally will wear the hat during a race, sun or clouds. During Grandma's Marathon, completely overcast but with high humidity, I had to take the hat off and carry it to allow my head to breathe and cool down. Heat dissipation was an issue with the humidity, even though the temps were in the 50s.

I don't mind running naked on the streets if it's legal. However I like
to wear a hat for a few reasons. First I like the terry cloth sweat
bands inside of some hats - they work well to prevent sweat from burning
my squinting eyes. More, I believe my hat in light colors actually
lowers the absorption of sun light because I have black hair. Also the
reflective material keeps me visible to motorists (at least that's the
plan). Lastly, when I don't want to make eye contact with anyone I
usually hide my eyes under the brim.
On an unrelated note, is it a faux pas to run in a Yankee's hat in Boston Marathon?

Not a faux pas, but you might end up running a PR trying to stay ahead of those trying to kill you.

Re: Hat or no hat?
Not a hat guy, but did don a bandana that was given to me from a team member for my winter trail series. It must have helped since we got 3rd overall team for the series. I kind of like running with as little as possible, since I tend to get annoyed easily by unfamiliar gear. One of my favorite runners 1972 Olympic gold medalist Dave Wottle made the running hat famous. He's an Ohio native who attended Bowling Green University when my sister was there. That come from behind Munich 800 finish is forever implanted in my sports memory! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5LHid-nC45k

Re: Hat or no hat?
I dont wear a hat. When I do, my head sweats like crazy. I will wear a hat on a trail run. Helps keep the sun out of my eyes because I can't wear sunglasses. With all the trees, it makes it so shady that it's hard to see the trail. So I wear a hat to avoid glasses just to have some protection for my eyes.
