Coach Bowerman

Bill Bowerman's son Jon and his wife Melissa are taking over the Madras High School track program.  It will be exciting to see what they can do with the program.  Madras has produced some exceptional athletes over the years but in general we have a very poor turnout and struggle to compete with schools our size.  The turnout for track is particularly low.  Jon and Melissa worked with the Fossil (a very small, remote school) program a few years ago and within three years they went from a turnout of 6 kids to state champions.  Melissa and Jon believe in rewarding kids for doing positive things both on and off the track.  Unfortunately Melissa agreed to attend the prom with one of the boys on the team if he kept his grades up and the Fossil school board considered it inappropriate and refused to let the Bowermans continue to work with the kids.  They volunteered in Madras last year and it was just announced that they had been hired to lead the program this year.

So...it's new coaches, a new stadium and a new track in Madras...
