Re: Part 1 of 3 parts to BQ
Thanks Julie. Getting closer and closer.
Monday - 4M. Recovery. Even though it was recovery pace and only 4M my legs were just shot. I was actually glad when it was over. So naturally with taper madness my thinking was my legs are done now, I'm overtrained. If Tuesday doesn't go well it's over.
Tuesday - 7M. Tempo. Insanity crisis over. The run went well. Did 4 or so at 15K or better. Felt good.
Tomorrow will be 7M again this time GA.

Re: Part 1 of 3 parts to BQ
Saturdays run sounds very encouraging! Really looking good for the 25th. I'm in a mental taper right now, but won't actually start a true taper I guess until this Thursday. Can relate to the insanity though... Why does every little ache/pain/etc. always get magnified x100 before an "A" race?

Re: Part 1 of 3 parts to BQ
Just remember, you're SUPPOSED to feel pretty run down at this point. You'll get through it
Re: Part 1 of 3 parts to BQ
Thanks John and Mike.
Wednesday - 7M GA. Felt pretty good out there. Did this early morning and I can never really hit the fast pace that early. Overall I was pleased.
Today is a no running day with some core work. We're back at it tomorrow for an easy 5M then 12M on Saturday.

Re: Part 1 of 3 parts to BQ
Thanks Julie. Jim, of course I'm copying you. You're a far better runner than I so why wouldn't I.
Friday - 5M Easy with 8x100m. It felt like a while since I ran last. I usually run Wednesday night and Thursday is a non-running day, then early morning Friday. But I ran early Wednesday and Friday at lunch. Big gap. It was nice to shake it out.
Tomorrow is 12M and Sunday I'll do 5M at MP probably. One week to go.

Re: Part 1 of 3 parts to BQ
Alex, you continue to look just plain strong.
Take it easy this week and pay a lot of attention to nutrition.
I think you're gonna nail this one, and then you'll be on to the crazy Chowdah!

Re: Part 1 of 3 parts to BQ
Thanks Michael.
Saturday - 12M LSD. Didn't really feel it out there. Better now than next weekend. Funny it was 40 when I started and Tuesday was in the mid-80's. Gotta love end of summer early fall weather. It can be anything.
Sunday - 5M MP. Felt pretty good.
Monday - About 35min recovery. Just enough to shake the legs out.
Tomorrow will be 5M easy.

Re: Part 1 of 3 parts to BQ
Sounds like you're ready Alex. Good luck and remember those doubles when you get late in the race and your legs are trashed. You've been doing it all summer so it shouldn't feel too much different. At least that's what I tell myself.
I'll be anxious to hear how things go this weekend!

Whoa - is the race this weekend? I'll be in Falmouth on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I'll have to check.

I've already lost it. At this point it just needs to be here.

Thanks John. I plan to think of training I've done once the pain hits.

Michele this weekend I'm doing the Clarence Demar Marathon which is in NH. The Cape isn't until the end of October.

Thanks Jim. Hopefully I'm ready.
Tuesday - 5M. Easy. Just counting it down now.
Today will be 7M with 2-3 at sub-MP.

Re: Part 1 of 3 parts to BQ
Just for a little confidence booster here, I ran a 1:37:25 half last
spring (so about a minute slower than your recent half) and then ran
3:31:45 at Chicago last fall in blistering heat. If you have decent
weather, I think that 3:25 predictor is within reach. I know your stated goal is 3:35, but I think you could go under 3:30 pretty easily on a good weather day and if you're feeling good, I would bet 3:25 is in play. Do what you feel comfortable with, but if the weather is good, I would shoot for 3:30 minimum.
Don't completely lose your mind in the next couple days, even though we all know that's easier said than done!

I agree your training has been excellent to say the least. You have some fast times in you so if weather is on your side let it take you there. Can't believe race is coming this weekend. Kick ass and have fun!
Re: Part 1 of 3 parts to BQ
Thanks Julie, John, Jim, and Kenny.
Here's what's making me nervous. While I have trained to hit my goal and maybe better, while I've mostly hit my test runs, the fact is if I hit my goal or better it would be a major drop in PR. Like 15-20min or even more. So I simply have no idea whether my legs can go 26.2 at the pace I've trained for because I've never been that close over 26.2. There's a big difference of doing 18 with 14 at MP and going 26.2 at MP.
I'm going for it, but if you've never been down at that level you just don't know until you've actually done it.

Re: Part 1 of 3 parts to BQ
It can be done. From Chicago 2009 to 2010, I went from 3:50 to 3:31 and then from Chicago 2010 to this spring in Champaign, I went from 3:31 to 3:16. And my training was probably not nearly as consistent and tough as yours in either of those training cycles.
That's almost 35 minutes in 2 marathons. I see no reason you can't do it, especially with as little marathon experience as you've got. Plenty of areas you can improve on to get a faster time besides fitness, which you've obviously made huge improvements in.

Re: Part 1 of 3 parts to BQ
Jim, Michael, & Julie,
Hopefully I can follow suit with the big drop.
At this point it looks like the weather may be a little factor. It's looking like it might be warm and fairly humid. Of course last weekend was in the 40's. Out of my control.
Wednesday - 7M. 2.5M at MP-10. When I got finished my face was covered in dead knats. It was comical. Swarms kept flying into me. Felt pretty good doing the sub-MP even though I was spitting out dead knats that flew into my mouth.
Thursday - 4.5M. Recovery. A bit humid out there.
Tomorrow will be a rest day. Then Saturday I'll do an easy 3-4. Then that's all she wrote.
Hopefully I can follow suit with the big drop.
