Slowly Going Somewhere . . .
I guess I will start a new blog.
I don't think I will have much to say for a while, since I am just going to restart my training after a summer of 50Ks and longer (and a couple of half marathons), without much running in between events.
I turned 62 last week and I may be getting older, but I am slower.

Charles - no matter we are always interested in what others are doing, and you are an interesting guy (even without the Dos Equis). Hope to see you in Indy in a couple of weeks.

+1...No doubt. Keep updated on how things are going, even if you are resetting everything at the moment.Michele \"1L" Keane wrote:Charles - no matter we are always interested in what others are doing, and you are an interesting guy (even without the Dos Equis). When I saw the title of the blog, I thought I started another blog. But then I would've titled it "Slowly Going Nowhere."
Just remember, Charles, it's the model, not the mileage.

Re: Slowly Going Somewhere . . .
At the moment I am being sorely tempted by a 24-hour race this coming Saturday in South Bend, IN. The St. Pat 24-hour endurance race (also 6 & 12). A VERY small event with - at the moment - only 11 in the 24-hour, zero for the 12 and 2 for 6.
http://www.stpats24hour.com/
Last year they had 19 for the 24, 8 for the 12 and 4 for the 6.
The weather is looking beautiful and there is free camping!
I am betting more will sign up by the deadline on Wednesday night at midnight.
I really want to get in a 100K and this would be a great place to do it.
Mainly trails for this one ! ! !
Susie can't go, but I am about to pull the trigger.
THEN no more events until April - really!

Woot! We got Charles back to blogging again!
We do love to keep up with your training and zest for adventure: especially these spur-of-the-moment ultra race entries like the one above. How do you find the energy to do them? I did one ultra this year, and I'm still recovering!
One other note" The first thing I saw about this new race was the web address, which initially made me wonder why anybody would race in spats.

Okay, so what did you decide? Gonna go for it? It certainly will be beautiful temps and dry weather. Inquiring minds.....and all.

Re: Slowly Going Somewhere . . .
Still debating - some reports say a chance of rain on Saturday and Sunday.
Also, a little concerned about my heel.
I think it would be OK, but I am not 100% sure.
I have until Wednesday night to decide.

Enabler!
BTW - the other day Susie's neck was hurting and she said I need Mark!
Do you feel the love from Hoosier Land?

And today I got a totally unexpected and out of the blue check for the exact amount for the race fee!
Would that count for a sign?

And I am amazed that Susie would want a massage from me. After her last experience, I was expecting to be served with a restraining order.

Re: Slowly Going Somewhere . . .
And . . . . I just signed up!
I found a forecast with no mention of rain, so I am focusing on that version of the weather for South Bend.
Four hour drive each way, but that's OK.
It starts at 8 AM on Saturday, so I will be done sooner on Sunday and get back in the early afternoon.

Re: Slowly Going Somewhere . . .
Awesome! Now waiting for the details next week. Oh yeah...no reference to age...you're 3 years behind me and doing ultra's! Those races are still on my bucket list. I'm stuck on marathon mode.
Re: Slowly Going Somewhere . . .
Sorry that your 24 hour race didn't go as you had planned, but I think that you did the right thing in regards to your ankle. Especially since you are about to start a 6 month training program. The concept of a time race is very interesting.
Heal that ankle up and thanks for the report!!

Sorry that it didn't go as planned - I think you are due some rest and recovery time so that the Spring race goes as planned. Hope to see you in a couple of weeks.
Re: Slowly Going Somewhere . . .
Golly, sorry to hear about the ankle but know you were smart to stop when you did. You're amazing...heck, anyone into ultras is a different breed and I really respect you all. Love the report style...fun to watch. I'll have to try to remember this one (St. Pat's South Bend). It's not that far and sounds like it could be fun.
Re: Slowly Going Somewhere . . .
Also not too far away is the 24 Hours at Sunset in Valpo in July.
And there is the well known 8-hour "Howl at the Moon" in Danville, IL in August.
I have a RR for that one too on my channel.
Only at a timed event do you hear people say "yeah, I only got a measly 50K".

Re: Slowly Going Somewhere . . .
Where's the race report from Valpo? I missed it on FB and think it belongs here.
